My Nephew Might Have Celiac Disease

Hey!

I am new to this forum. I have Celiac Disease and have been on a strict gluten free diet for two years. My nephew (brother's kid) is 15 months now and has all the symptoms I had when I was a baby. He has severe breathing problems and bloody stools, constant mucus build up in his chest. He has been in and out of the hospital too many times. They keep saying it is allergies to milk, soy and 1,000 other things, but not gluten or wheat. They have put him on every diet except for gluten-free diet and nothing works. He now has stopped growing and gaining weight. I am super frustrated because they will not listen to me. My brother has been tested for Celiac Disease and it came back negative, but I still do not think he is in the clear. He has major stomach issues, seizures and diary allergies. He only had a blood test. He did ask his doctor about testing my nephew for Celiac Disease and the doctor said no he was too young for that and that he is doesn't think he has it, so that was good enough for my brother and sister-n-law. I am starting to get scared because his symptoms are getting worse. Can someone please give me information and advice on how to approach them again without seeming too pushy. I do not want to scare them away and I am only trying to help. I don't want my nephew to go through what I had to go through being undiagnosed for 27 years of my life.

Thanks so much!

Alicia

Thank you so much, everyone. For the moment my doctor just has me taking iron but hopefully we can reconnect soon. I'm going to look into genetic testing, too. Great advice all around and I appreciate it--and you can bet I'm going off the PPIs!

I walk fast for fitness, 4 to 6 km per day. I am also 74 years old. Apart from the Celiac challenge, my lifestyle is healthy. I had a sciatiac nerve pinching under my one foot, with inflamation in my whole shin. It was almost cured, when the other shin started paining and burning. I do stretches, use a natural cooling gel and rest my feet. Can Celiac cause muscle pains/inflamation, or is it just over-excercising?

I recently started shopping at a nearby Trader Joe's store. I was surprised at the number and variety of (healthy) gluten-free options sold there. I must admit their low prices are also quite tempting. However, I am curious as to the labeling on all their packages. While none of their products are certified as gluten-free, many are identified as 'GLUTEN FREE' on the packaging. Are these items safe for celiacs? Has anyone tried Trader Joe's products and have there been any adverse reactions?

HI, my doctor suggested one week of consuming gluten before blood tests.  I have been gluten free for 3 years.  Has anyone been through this and will I get exact results after one week of consuming gluten?  I don't even know if I can do this, if I get sick I am not sure if I can continue, any suggestions??  Thanks in advance.
