A year or two ago you recommended the Rainbow Lite Calcium pills, and I just wanted to let you know the calcium and vitamin D are working, I scored better on my bone density test this year, I am still in the range of osteopenia, but it is getting better! I also bought a tread mill and I usually walk a mile every day now, so that helps too!

yay! :) I'm glad to hear your scores are up! keep up with that walking, and someday, you'll find all your friends - of your age - wonder how you can be so young. :)

that reminds me that my chiropractor mentioned an article to me recently about a couple of doctors suggesting much larger supplementation of vit D - on the 2000 to 4000 IU/day range. :o don't know that it'd help specifically with osteopenia, but wow!

If you want vitamin D, get out in the sunlight (without sunblock, but not between 11 am and 2 pm if you live in a warm climate)!!!!

and that doesn't work in a non-trivial portion of the US in the months of (approximately) october through march. :( (there's not enough UV, even on a sunny day, for the body to produce vitD at high latitudes because of the tilt of the earth and the amount of atmosphere the sun's going through at that point.)

the comparison to the sun is one of the reasons the researchers are recommending that dosage, however, noting that summer sun exposure of 10 minutes gives about 10,000-30,000 IU (iirc).
