I have been newly diagnosed. How serious should I be about meats? Can I eat cool-whip? Is there a place where I can go, type in a food and it says yes or no? Good grief, this can be very frustrating!!

There are companies that provide lists of safe foods. You usually need to purchase a subscription to those.

The most effective way to know if something is safe is to learn to read labels.

Unsafe ingredients:http://www.celiac.com/articles/182/1/Unsafe-Gluten-Free-Food-List-Unsafe-Ingredients/Page1.html

Safe ingredients: http://www.celiac.com/articles/181/1/Safe-...ents/Page1.html

Companies that won't hide gluten. If you don't see wheat/rye/barley/barley malt/oats on the label, then its not hidden in starches, flavors, etc. http://www.glutenfreeindy.com/foodlists/in...donothidegluten

Take these lists with you when shopping. It'll make life much easier.

All plain meat (chicken, beef, pork, etc.) and seafood is safe. It depends on how/what is cooked that determines if it has gluten. But meat/chicken/seafood itself is gluten free.

Cool-Whip is a Kraft Brand. Kraft is a company on the above list that won't hide gluten. If you don't see a gluten source listed, its not in there. If you need help determining ingredients, feel free to post and someone will help. http://www.kraftfoodservice.com/healthy_li...ree_0623031.pdf

Hope this helps and welcome to the board!
