Testing: Different Laboratories

I have read on several Celiac disease websites that a "reliable" laboratory such as Prometheus, Mayo or Quest should be used for celiac panels. How much of this do you think is really the need for a specific laboratory versus an advertising plug from one corporation to another? I want the best. And I want other's opinions.

I am sure that there is a margin of error in every element of testing. My testing is through Quest. As you might know, here are the tests to be ordered:

Anti-gliadin antibodies (AGA) both IgA and IgG

Anti-endomysial antibodies (EMA) - IgA

Anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTG) - IgA

Total IgA level.

Did you have to specifically request Quest or was that the lab your doctor already used? I'm probably putting too much thought in to this.

My tests were done through Sonora Quest Labs. Probably because of insurance. I tested very positive on 3 of the 4 tests they did.

At the point of my blood work, I had been two months gluten free with a diagnosis of Celiac from a GI. Unhappy with my PCP, I choose to see another doctor. He in turn ordered "tests", which I later found was for Celiac at a cost of $1500, because he was Hospital affiliated and they got their cut.

I no longer give doctors free range to run test on me and I have returned to my original and long tern PCP.

I don't think it's as important as to who does the the testing as long as the correct tests are done.

      Enlarged lymph nodes in neck and groin with celiac are not uncommon. They can take time to reduce even after going gluten-free. Monitoring is key.

      Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

      I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.
