Hi everyone.

Cheers for all the excellent information I have managed to pick up from the site.

Now I have a question that I haven't managed to find in any of the threads.

Does anyone else get a seasonal crash?

When the seasons change..winter to spring..but especially autumn to winter I have a really bad reaction.

My skin goes to pot..I get DH rashes and nasty skin..

my scalp breaks out..reddening and splitting..I sting like crazy

and worst of all my energy levels absolutely crash.

At this time of the year I always feel as if I want to hibernate or emigrate..

I cannot get motived and would spend all day sitting under a quilt watching TV and craving very sugary things.

If I get cold..I have major trouble getting warm again.

Does anyone else celiacs get this..or is it just me.

Do I need to be looking for another cause?

Another thing..if you don't mind me asking..

I have just started suplements

L-carnitine and lipoic acid for nerve damage

B12

and B complex

they seem as if they may be making a difference..

BUT..

coughs with embarassment..

my pee has turned Pea Green... :o

Is that Normal..

I've never heard of pea-green pea--please tell your doctor as soon as possible.

I've read that vitamin D deficiency can be responsible for a large number of disorders--and this is the season when people stay inside and hibernate, and thus don't produce Vitamin D from sun exposure (which happens even if it's cloudy, by the way).

I do know one family who spends lots of time in the sun, and they still have some kind of Vitamin D deficiency. Apparently, there is something either not working correctly in their bodies, or being blocked, or something. But they are fine on Vitamin D supplements. But that's something you ought to have a doctor's input on, as it is possible to OVERDOSE on vitamin D supplements

I also feel crappy when the weather changes. I think a lot of people do.

as far as the pea green pee. is it a bright green? if your pee is yellowy green it just means you have an excess of B vitamines (and probably other vitamines). Is it consistantly this color? I notice sometimes when I take my vitamines my pee is almost a bright green color, but it goes back to clear-yellow as the day goes on....unless you are taking vitamines more than once a day, then it probably would consistantly be that color.- it is normal

I think the pea green pee (a poem here?) really could be from vitamins or such as suggested. Try going off any vitamins of that color and see if your pee changes back to normal...

You might want to get your thyroid and/or adrenals checked. Lots of people with celiac get low thyroid. Often that is presaged with burnt out adrenals. Like from too much coffee or chocolate or running around or anxiety or empty sugary calories. (Sounds kind of anxious in itself, eh?). It often goes away once you have your diet under control and heal your intestines. But sometimes it stays.

There is a good thyroid site at Wilsonthyroidsyndrome on the Internet. Eat hot food, stay off salads for now. Don't eat excessive amounts of millet or cabbage. My ex boyfriend has to take a half dose of thyroxin and then does the (make sure they are non gluten-free) herbs that Wilsonsthyroidsyndrome suggests. He also finds vigorous exercise makes a huge difference between having energy or just nothing at all. The whole T-4 to T-3 conversion isn't always automatic, so that website should help you with that if it is a problem for you too especially if you continue to have a low body temp.

So Excercise (even though you really don't want to) helps by speeding up your slowed down metabolism. Say in a nice warm gym? Or even in your warm house--like using one of those little stair stepper or relatively cheap flat pedal walker like machines. Or make yourself get bundled up (in layers) and go for walks, eventually getting more vigorous. Push ups and sit ups are nice to get your heart pumping as well as get your core stronger. Start slow and do a little extra each day. During the daylight hours is best. But night is better than nothing. Probably soon you will feel a lot better.

PS--almost forgot to mention -- taking herbal detox or other routes to detox is essential both for your skin and general feeling of well being. Saunas are fab if you can handle them. You can take a hot bath and bundle up in towels and go directly into bed under the covers so you sweat. So is the exercise so that you sweat kind too (not to get tiresome here).

And then herbs: as I have mentioned infinitum before--dandelion or milk thistle caps, yellow dock or Oregon grape root caps or boil up the roots for twenty to thirty minutes. Adding some licorice is good too if you are having low adrenals. It can raise your blood pressure if taken too long however (more than 10 days). Peppermint, lavender, rosemary and chamomile teas are also good for supporting the adrenals -- separately or altogether. Avoid Melissa or any herbal immune stimulant like Ginseng because if you have celiac you already have an overactive immune system.

I also have seasonal crashes. Especially when it changes from Summer to Autumn. I have been a complete wreck since the beginning on September. It hasn't ever been as bad as it has been this year for some reason. I think it's partially due to Celiac, and partially due to allergies. It usually subsides when Winter comes. Winter to Spring is the second worse seasonal change for me. I wish there was a way to fix it. If I were you, I would look into food allergies and seasonal/environmental allergies. Hope you feel better,

I thought it was vit D problem when I lived in the NE UK, winter light levels were low but I expected to see a difference when I emigrated to spain because it has probably the best light levels in europe..but it is just as bad.

I am not supplementing vit D. Maybe it is something I should look at.

I have been spreading the supplements taking some with breakfast and some with lunch.

I will watch for colour changes throughout the day.

I feel more comfortable that it is just the B vits now.

I should have mentioned that I have my husband on the same tablets and it is having the same effect on him.

I should also mention that I am self-diagnosed..hence the "quack".

I found the site while researching massive (systemic) nerve damage I have.

Eliminating the wheat seemed to partly aleviate the symptoms, so I have been wheat free for about 3 years.

(Apart from accidental contaminations.)

Finding the link on site about the acetyl-l-carnitine helping nerve damage was my first foray into supplements and they have worked so well I thought I would try the B vits too.

I love my exercise.

When I first went wheat free I lost about 50 pounds without dieting but my skin was still the same size and baggy.

Once my pain specialist signed me off for physio I started using the toning tables and I love them

(plus long walks and saunas)

They have toned my whole body up and increased the muscle density I had lost with the nerve damage but as soon as I hit this time of year it all falls apart.

Last year I was off for 6 weeks..this year I am into week 5.

It is the only time I have to stop because I just feel so wrecked.

What is the problem with the cabbage?

Because I have stepped up the leafy green vegetables trying to increase my natural vitamins and cabbage is something I eat a lot more of.

I was going to make myself a melissa rub to try to pep myself up..so thanks for the heads up.

It is worst when winter first hits..then it subsides.

It hits again going into spring but nowhere near as bad.

It makes me dread winter.

I hear that excess cabbage can lower the thyroid. Try supplementing with liquid chlorophyll from Alfalfa. Leafy veggies are generally very good, just rotate them and don't be excessive as I say with the cabbage. Maybe you could add ginger to make them energetically warmer. You should avoid uncooked vegetables for now. The Chinese think we should use salads only in summer, and I think there is at least some truth to that.. Save salads at least for mid-day for when you feel warm.

Glad to hear you do all that exercise! I need to be better about it myself, so for me so far its an every other day thing...

I too have had major nerve damage. Am still recovering but much improved. I take co-enzyme B vitamins and it seems to have helped enormously. I use the regular tablets, not the sublinguals since I don't do well with sorbitol. Two weeks after I started them my heart stopped racing and palpitating. My memory is improving plus I stopped having meaningless anxiety attacks etc. as well as my general health has improved exponentially though I still have to be a little careful not to overdo things. In the past it was either overdo when I was able or it didn't get done...since I was always crash and burning healthwise whether I was focused or not.

You definitely should look into the adrenal/thyroid thing. Reacting so strongly to the change in the weather is a major clue.

I have just had time to read the link you posted and it could certainly be significant.

I have always said that when I sit outdoors in the sun-shine I can feel my batteries recharging

I may have been more accurate than I thought.

Before going wheat-free I had tried supplements for skin and energy problems but never had any noticible reactions..

probably the malabsorbtion..

but the B vits seem to be making a difference this time, I feel as if I have more energy in my Head..

I just need it to transfer to my Body..

In the summer I do a 2 mile beach walk most mornings and it is the Best part of my day

but like the toning..at this time of year that goes down the pan too.

Sorry yolo..I must have posted over you.

I looked at the low adrenals and I have to say I was excited by it because it sounds exactly like me but I did the blood pressure and temp checks recommended on stopthethyroidmadness site and decided it probably wasn't.

I checked out Armour..only available on prescription

and Dremamin.

Dremamin put me off because it listed Buckwheat as an ingredient on one site and Wheat (germ) on another

and I must admit the word Wheat in anything reads as Poison to me so I didn't investigate any further.

I am onto the ginger link and also adding tumeric..red skin potatoes, broccoli and mushrooms to try to gain some natural trace elements.

Pure aloe vera juice too.

Sugar has been highlighted by my allergy hair tests and I am trying hard.

I have done extremely well with the wheat.

Good with the dairy..and I am finding that I am starting to tolerate it again..

but I still battle sugar cravings especially this time of year.

I am hoping that once the carnitine and b12 kick in it will help aleviate the chocolate/sugar cravings because I am sure it makes the rashes and itching worse.

(yeast problem?)

I was told the nerve damage I had was permanant and degeneritive.

(complex regional pain syndrome type 2 in the UK. RSD or causalgia in the US)

Eliminating the wheat helped but since taking the carnitine there has been a marked improvement.

Regeneritive.

I also had massive pain/period problems which would always make my nerve problems a lot worse around that time

I have only been taking the carnitine and b12 for 3 weeks but this time the pain from the period was SO different.

I hardly had any.

I am hoping it was not just a freaky result..because the difference was amazing.

Thing is..I am not sure if it was the carnitine helping the nerve damage or the b12 helping the anemia..

but at least it looks like Something is working, which is a massive step forward.

I will take that onboard about the cabbage thanks. I hadn't seen that info anywhere before.

I definitely have seasonal changes. When it gets cold, I get worse. But I do like the holidays and snow, so that makes it a little better. :)

I would worry about using too much aloe vera juice. It can cause D! From what I read, just use a tablespoon or two a day, no more. Best used if you struggle with Constipation. It does have youth creating properties.

Some herbs that seem to be helpful for the adrenals and nerves are peppermint, licorice, lavender, rosemary, chamomile, skullcap and alfalfa. Ginger is warming and good for the digestion.

I was taking L- carnitine too but no longer since I think I no longer need it--plus its expensive. I am able to digest meat more now. The co-enzyme B vitamins are what did it for me. I take the ones from Country Life. The cost is quite reasonable. The regular B's just aren't easily absorpable enough for me. I was way down on B-1 which is essential for nerve health amongst other things like protein and carb. digestion. My myelin sheath was down 50%.

By the way, when I first figured out I had celiac from the Merck manual I had been eating oats to help me sleep--and got so bad I was shaking when I would stand up. I saw a doc who thought it was leaky gut, but I wasn't convinced given my already pretty good diet. Going off the gluten "entirely" however (or so I thought since I was still getting trace amounts of glulten due to my ignorance and lack of support in the medical establishment--and still kind of thought of it as an allergy) suddenly made it so my fingernails got stronger for the first time and my teeth started to harden at long last -- this in my mid forties. And I stopped shaking. Five years later however I started to get mysterious joint problems like a frozen shoulder and weird nerve pains and achy joints and the pain in my calves and feet at night got even more intense plus I had more anxiety attacks over nothing. Kaiser of course was of absolutely no help. They called it arthritis...and "old age." Now these symptoms have gone away now that I am off all trace glutens and taking these co-enzyme B vitamins.

I also take liquid trace sea minerals as well as calcium, zinc, magnesium citrate. These all help for the nerves too. The best calcium for me is E-zorb--available only online. Even though I take Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar, calcium citrate isn't that absorpable for me. However everyone is different...

I am hoping that if I get my stomach healed I will be able to substitue some things in naturally because if I had to take the supplements forever the cost would be prohibitive.

Looking at how the l-carnitine and b12 they both seem to work in a very similar way so I am hoping to use one or the other.

I know that I must have been short on b12 for a few years because I have no half moons except on my thumbs so b12 it will probably be.

I am also taking B-complex which I think may be the same as your

co-enzyme B vitamins

a mix of all the other B vits.

Aloe vera is the only one that I have been taking for any length of time and knowing what I know now I think it was the one that started my remission..probably because it coated the damaged villi for a while same as a silica will.

We do only take 5-10 ml a day but the amazing change with aloe was to my husband.

He has a hiatus hernia and horrific reflux acid.

(he is a secret celiac..but I am on to him. ;) )

He was on heavy duty prescription anti-acids and over the counter meds like gavilast.

couple of weeks on aloe vera..none of the above.

He was so bad..buying the aloe vera saves us money against the prescription meds.

I got peppermint tea because I noticed when my ears were bad it eased them off a bit, I do not like the taste but I will persevere if it is helpful.

Ditto chamomile for sleeping.

Rosemary readily available (national herb) so will be added to stocks.

Adore liquorice but did note that it had wheat in the candy form over here.

Lavender can be added to my shower/massage oil.

I will google skullcap and alfalfa because I haven't seen them mentioned before so I don't know what they do.

Thanks they are all good tips and readily available..so I shall be trying them all.

Ah, its herbal licorice I meant, not the candy. You can get the whole sticks or chopped up or powdered or just get capsules. In an herbal mash it tends to froth up when on a slow boil. You have to stir it down and turn down the heat and then its OK. You only need 1/2 the dose of other herbs (i.e, 1/2 tablespoon vs 1 tablespoon of other herbs to a quart of water). It will raise your blood pressure if taken more than 10 days. If you have low BP however, that might be a boon... It acts on the adrenal and other glands. Is good for the lungs too and in general is an "adaptogen" thus making other herbs work better...and helps one deal with the changes in the weather... Plus yes its sweet without actual sugar.

Co-enzyme B's are more absorbable than other B vitamins since they go directly into the blood stream on an empty stomach. I couldn't make use of B vitamins without this co-enzyme thing going on. However everyone is different...

Skullcap will help soothe your nerves while rebuilding them. So its pretty ideal.

Alfalfa will help give the nerves much needed nutrients. I think the best source of alfalfa generally assuming you also need to detox (and who doesn't?) is liquid chlorophyll.

Nettle leaves are also good...just boil water and pour over the leaves. If you get fresh ones be sure to use gloves and then boil slightly.

Again I think using marshmallow root caps or powder in water (it tends to gunk up any cooked herbal mash) would help heal and sooth your villi, which could add to your "intestinal fortitude" dealing with the cold weather!

Hope some of this helps you. Certainly has for me.

I bought liquorice sticks in the UK last time I was there.

I will put some on the list for my next visit.

I got them because they are supposed to be good for your teeth and help with sugar cravings..(my achilies heel..)

I like them...but I like candy liquorise More.. :lol:

Funnily enough..when my nerve damage got better and I increased the exercise and altered my diet, my blood pressure went down as it should..

but, on the last few readings it has got so low that I was starting to worry about it slipping into the warning low blood pressure area.

Can you tell me more on the alfalfa because I am a bit confused.

I googled it and one of the things it mentioned was not to take it if you had any auto-immune diseases because it can lead to increased immune reaction and I thought that that was what we were trying to avoid by avoiding wheat.

It is like a contradiction.

Could it be that some people need their immune systems switched on while others need them switched down

what do you think?

I hit the same thing with the Dremanine.

It Sounds like I have low adrenals.

I Think I should try something to see if it works

but it has buckwheat or wheat (germ) in it

so it could make the adrenals better...but set the wheat allergy off again.

It is so confusing. No wonder most doctors have trouble diagnosing it.

It has so many cross-over symptoms and contradictions.

Just a quick note that buckwheat despite it's name has nothing at all to do with actual wheat, so unless you're avoiding buckwheat for some other reason, it shouldn't put you off a product!

You are totally right about the alfalfa being an immune stimulant. I didn't realize. Wow. For some people it can actually bring out lupus. Obviously we should avoid it since Celiac indicates an overactive immune system. It has helped me in the short term but I don't take it every day... In my defence, Phyllis Balch in her book Herbal Healing recommends it for people with celiac. Especially if you are low on vitamin K. However in fine print she says to avoid alfalfa if you have an auto immune disease such as lupus or RA. Given that, however I agree--we should just avoid it overall... Ignorance is not bliss despite the difficulties of all this. Sorry about that. Am glad you caught it. I will tell my buddy about it. He has a tendency to get RA...and turned me on to using it to begin with!

I agree too, buckwheat is fine as long as its gluten-free. Some still have problems with it however.

Wow. I just thought I was wrong or I was picking something up wrong.

Your repeat symptoms didn't show up after you started taking the alfalfa did they?

Research on my nerve problem said it could be from

an undiagnosed nerve disease

(which I think is all down to the celiacs)

Or a massive immune reaction happening in my body

Or if I was on immune surpresants..like after an organ transplant

so I thought maybe it could work both ways, producing either an over active or underactive immune reaction.

Another thing you made me Think of..the B complex that I am taking.

Both me and my son think that we have a problem with yeast

(I have seen a link with celiacs being associated with a systemic yeast problem)

and I have a funny feeling that one of the mixed B complex vits..

(b2 I think) may be the equivilent of brewers Yeast.

I may have made a wrong choice there too.

Easy enough to check that one out by elimination for a week but I didn't even think about it until you mentioned that they hadn't worked for you and it set me wondering about them.

Hopefully the more my brain fog lifts the more I will understand about this sneaky disease.

I feel as if I am getting my eyes opened a little wider every day.

I have pernicious anemia and I have to take B-12 intra muscular injections to live a normal life..

I know , if you take too much B-12.. you pea comes out pure orange color... lol ( I take more than usual amounts of B-12)

Online it say's that pea green urine comes from coloring of certain medication capsules or other medications.

There is a website online that deals with urine clarity issues. ( it describes every issue with urine) lol

I have cut my b complex out and put the b12 with breakfast..and am pleased to report back to normal colours. Phew.. :rolleyes:

I cut the b complex out for now and will investigate your B co-enzyme,

yeast seems to be a problem.

That is why I got the b12 I have found it linked to clearing out systemic yeast infections associated with celiacs.

Another link said that if you have a large yeast infection it is impossible to lose weight and the typical protruding belly without stopping the yeast infection first.

B12 apparently helps covert the sugars into energy that the body can use rather than it sitting around as fuel for yeast infections.

This is where I found a similarity between what b12 and l-carnitine do, so I hope to investiate a bit more.

(Also I found a link that says if you can tolerate red wine, 2 glasses every night has a yeast killing effect, that made my son smile..

there have to be Some advantage to this damn disease :D )

If you feel rotten at first, that is the candida die off.

We have just got there.

From feeling an immediate lift we have swung back a bit I was wondering if it was the b-complex setting the yeast off because my tummy feels bloated and hard.

I have been getting headaches for 3 days, which is very unusual and I have had the wide awake eyes at night

so I am not getting much sleep..

we both have very painful ears and we are both a bit short tempered.

Maybe it is the yeast dying off.

I could put up with it for that.

We went shopping today and I was delighted to find wheat free stock-cubes but I am not sure if they contain yeast or not.

Bought myself a coconut too..I remeber you mentioning it further back in the thread..so I will give it a try.

I will look for the block coconut oil when I am back in the UK.

Just a thought..would anyone know if Palm oil is similar to coconut oil?

I have block palm oil.

I also bought some detoxifying tea.

A mix of green red and black tea specially for detox, got it home and guess what it contains 5% traces of wheat..

Enterically coated acidophilus really helps. As does enterically coated garlic I have found as well as caprylic acid and oregano oil etc.

I will check them out at the weekend on the net, I feel as if I could do with something to help detox a bit faster.

Just a note of interest,

It does have youth creating properties.

Remember saying this about the aloe..that is how it is sold..elixir of youth.

When I found the l-carnitine it was on this site to help celiac associated nerve disease

when I googled it..

it comes up as this elixir of life sort of supplement.

It is an amino acid.

when I googled B12..guess what..it comes up as an elixir of life sort of supplement.

So that is All 3 of them.

I was after the vitamin k from the aloe but when I re-visited the listing on it aloe is full of B vitamins and amino acids.

Hmmm..

makes me wonder if they get their "elixirs of life" reputations because they are

simple celiac symptom blockers/detoxers/releasers.

and if this is so

are the Symptoms of "old age"

simply the accumulitive effects of undiagnosed celiacs?

About the elixers of life and celiac--that is an interesting thought. I think that for us anyway being on diet and taking things that help us does keep us younger than others our age. I think its the plus part of our inheritance.

In addition, there are those who say gluten isn't really that digestible for anyone and that it is one of the main root causes of a variety of degenerative diseases all over the world where it has been introduced into the diet. That and sugar(s). I suggest also various artificial additives aren't that healthy either... Something to think about all right...

The more I learn, the more I worry about That specific point.

I started looking at my family, then my friends and picking out recognisable celiac symptoms in them and it is damn scarey.

It suggests a lot more than a simple genetic magnification of the fault.

I checked out those links over the weekend and so many things fell into place.

I think that I probably have hypothyroidism which has probably given me low adrenal function.

Plus I think I have set off a bad yeast infection winter last year and that is why I have put weight back on and have such bad sugar cravings.

(I thought I was being accidently wheated but I couldn't identify where..maybe I was being over yeasted and was craving sugar to feed it)

Reading suggests that I have to sort the yeast infection out before anything else falls into place...

so I am psyching myself for the fight.

(The fermented cabbage juice idea especially is having a strange effect on my resolve and that is just the thoughts of it)

Did you do it..and if you did, did it make a difference?

Also I was thinking that my DH rash comes up to show when I have been accidently "wheated"

and have always taken it as a sign of accidental wheat contamination

but..

does anybody think it is possible that a DH rash is sensitive to Yeast ingestion rather than just wheat?

I seem to feel the effects of the DH rash from processed/salted "dusty" nuts

which I cannot find any wheat contamination in

(except maybe cross over contamination in the processing plant)

I noticed if I have the nut "dust" on my fingers and touch my face I can feel the DH prickles within a short time.

If the "dust" on the nut is a natural dried yeast it could explain a lot for me.

Does anyone know or have an opinion?

Hi--sorry not to have replied sooner but there was some kind of technical glitch with the group and then I got busy...

I haven't done the fermented cabbage. Rejuvelac, no? The fermented part makes me wonder too though these days I seem to handle Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar with no problem, whereas in the past I could not. It might be worth a try sometime... I hear it isn't that bad tasting if you make it with very clean supplies. Otherwise it isn't edible...

I have to admit I have not ever permanently gotten rid of my candida. It would be nice to have a real cure. There have been times it seemed like it but it invariably came back, due no doubt to having contracted it as an infant from too many antibiotics too soon after I initially got glutened and reacted so badly (stopped growing plus got pneumonia at age 4 months). Having been exposed to radiation in the atmosphere probably didn't help (from the infamous "Green Run" experiment on the local population by Hanford Nuclear Power Plant back in 1949--which was coincident with the pneumonia etc.).

A further wrinkle is that I wasn't told I had celiac despite the diagnosis I had as an infant and eventually (after I figured it out) simply thought I had a gluten allergy...so I didn't stay away from cross contamination and occasionally had a wheat/oatmeal cookie... etc.!! Its only this last year I really found out how absolutely "pure" one needs to be with this diet!

I now have candida overgrowth etc. in a much less virulent form. However I have learned my lesson and stay away from all sugars. Occasionally like for a special occasion I will make something sweet tasting that also has a small amount of sugar in it in addition to the sweet but sugar free stevia. Problem with stevia is that if you use a lot in something it often tastes bitter -- unless you use carob and/or applesauce.

Problem I have is I eventually developed an allergy to fruit sugar so applesauce is actually worse for me than a tablespoon of sugar in a recipe... I am going to try using a little rice syrup in my pumpkin pie for instance. But for the carob bars, I won't have to add any sugar at all... Generally its best however if I avoid sweet things entirely. Though I do love my teff/quinoa/brown rice pancakes which I sprinkle with stevia and top with yogurt. I don't do well with more than one or two however...And shouldn't have them every day though there are times I do.

I also stay away from potatoes. I thought maybe it was the sugar but found its also because its part of the deadly nightshade family, and also have the same reaction from tomatoes and peppers. This is what I call a true allergy...though its not that uncommon apparently for those who have celiac... It seems to exacerbate the candida/ fungus.

For me the best way to get rid of candida is to eat fewer carbohydrates, and have the ones I eat be whole grains or things like tubers (yams, sweet potatoes etc.) or squash. Of the grains, the more ancient ones seem best like well washed quinoa, teff or amaranth... I can now handle eating well washed brown rice pretty frequently now -- but couldn't always. I still eat corn only occasionally.

When anyone has candida seriously it is my understanding they need to avoid fruit...sorry but true... Eventually a small amount of fruit is usually tolerated. For me I use unsweetened cranberries and add stevia to taste...

Thus the diet should focus on eating lots of vegetables with meat and/or fish for protein...

Beans really don't cut it if you have serious candida overgrowth. Even now I can only handle eating beans once in a while even though I love them. Lentils seem better than black beans etc.

Yogurt is good but generally other milk products are out. Somehow or other the fermentation of the milk to make yogurt changes it significantly and makes what was "bad" and fed the yeast etc. to something "good" which fights it with probiotics. Must relate to all those centuries of northern European peoples surviving on fermented Reindeer milk during the winter...

I use things like oregano or thyme oil rubbed on my various lymphatic points (like the inside of the wrists and behind the knees etc.) and/or enterically coated oregano oil (avoid thyme oil internally since its just too strong!!) and ideally enterically coated garlic to help get rid of the candida overgrowth.

Regular garlic helps but isn't as powerful for some reason, though reg. garlic is good to eat all the time if you have this condition and can handle it.

Enterically coated acidophilus is for me essential too, like Now's GR8. Of course eating yogurt is important too but it is not as effective as the enterically coated pro-biotic products.

Another herb I use (judiciously) is barberry powder. It is similar to golden seal but more effective and cheaper. It is specific against candida overgrowth. A little goes a long way...Best not to use every day however. Ten days max then go off it.

I have found taking things to meanwhile help out your liver while you detox is essential, like dandelion caps or make a brew say with yellow dock. Boil for at least 20 minutes, 1 tablespoon of herb per quart of water. Add some ginger if this is too cooling for you... and can handle warming spice.

Add some licorice root if you have low blood pressure, low adrenals etc. Again don't take these herbs more than ten days at a time. You can alternate them say with milk thistle caps and Oregon Grape Root.

Marshmallow root caps or just take the powder and stir in cold water will help soothe and heal your intestines (and other innards) in the meanwhile... This you can take all the time as needed.

Exercise and saunas also help kill off and keep the yeasty beasties in check. Hard to remember when you are in the thick of die off however as you get a little better its a great idea.

About the "dust"--I too react though its more my brain and nose that gets it than skin. Certainly the dust on dried fruit has gluten in it but I think not on nuts--but don't know. It may be you like some of us are allergic to nuts. It may be temporary or it could be permanent. Let's hope it is just temporary. Does cooking nuts help or having them fresh shelled?? For many, soaking and sprouting the nuts and seeds overnight helps make them easier to digest in large part due to removing the growth inhibitor as well as adding more vitamins etc.. For me unfortunately the only nut like thing I am not allergic to is sunflower seeds...

I fall into misery every fall and don't come out of it til it warms up again. I DESPISE winter I am a summer person all the way. I HATE the cold, Im one of those eternally cold people who was meant to live somewhere with 70 degree winters and 120 degree summers.

mysecretcurse...my sympathys friend, That is exactly how I feel.

For most of my life with the onset of winter I either wanted to hibernate or emigrate.

While I lived in the NE UK I blamed it on the low sun/cold, lack of natural vit D.

I emigrated to Spain, which has the highest sun levels and most warmth in Europe I expected a lift but unfortunately the seasonal crash Still happens.

skinnykid, you are right, winter hurts me.

Even my skin feels as if it stinging all over and if you feel ill and sore all the time nothing else feels right.

      You have three celiac disease specific antibody tests that are positive: Endomysial  Antibody IGA (aka, EMA), tTG-IGA, and tTG_IGG. Furthermore, your Immunoglobulin A at 55 is low, meaning you are IGA deficient. This one is not an antibody test for celaic disease per se but a measure of "total IGA" levels and if low (yours is low) it can suppress the individual antibody scores and even cause false negatives. So, yes, it definitely looks like you have celiac disease.   Do not yet begin a gluten free diet as your physician may refer you to a GI doc for an endoscopy/biopsy of the small bowel lining for confirmation of the antibody testing.       Mine is definitely triggered by inflammation and stress! I do also have arthritis in my spine, but the pain is more in my pelvic area. Im sure i have other food intolerances or other autoimmune isues but the more I focus on it and see doctor after doctor, it just gets worse.  Best thing is get of Gluten! (I also avoid lactose). Try to limit stress and anything that causes inflammation in your body.

      Good morning,   I got an email about replies to this post. Some of my doctors had blamed a slipped disc for the pain I had and that contributes, but after meeting with a gastroenterologist AGAIN and trying some lifestyle modifications, I found out I have IBS and can't tolerate corn or excessive fructose to any degree. Cutting out corn AFTER having cut out all gluten containing products was a real pain but I feel much better now!

      So, I contacted Scott Adams, the author of that article and also the creator/admin of this website, and pointed out to him the need to clarify the information in the paragraph in question. He has now updated the paragraph and it is clear that the DGP-IGA does serve the purpose of circumventing the false negatives that IGA deficiencies can generate in the tTG-IGA antibody test.
