When Can She Use Iodized Salt Again

My mother has Celiac and had not adhered to her gluten free diet which resulted in weight loss and an itch rash. Add to the mix at 88 years old, she just moved into a retirement community which has been very stressful. She has now resumed her gluten free diet (for @ a month) and her rash has improved. She can make gluten free choices with her meal plan, BUT cannot avoid iodized salt. Anyone know if she can resume the iodized salt without concern of the skin rash returning? Thanks.

It usually takes the antibodies a while to leave the skin. I know it isn't the answer you want to hear but it will vary with different people. If they can accomodate the gluten-free diet successfully perhaps they could use a container of noniodized salt for her food for a bit? Have you asked? They might let her bring her own to the table if they know why she needs it.

      Trying to read my lab results

      Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep...

      Constant low back, abdominal and pelvic pain!

      I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.

      Perhaps I should also have said that in addition to showing a very high response to gluten, her stool study showed that she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that.
