Hi all,

I have been diagnosed with Premature Ovarian Failure at 28. I already have 3 children thankfully! But I have been rotating through birth control pills that have gluten in them and it is really taking it's toll on my body and my depression!!!!!

I need help, does anyone with Celiacs currently take Birth Control? If so please share your brand with me so I can tell my OB and get on with my life!!

Thanks,

K

Hi Mom,

If you want a non-pill solution, how about the Mirena? It's an IUD for women who've had kids before. It works really well. Most insurance plans cover it but if they don't it is usually cheaper than 5 years of pills. Plus it's more effective and you don't have to take the pill every day, and no chance of gluten.

FWIW I'm convinced that my 25 years on birthcontrol pills were the root of my depression. I've been off for seven years and those years have been so much different!

Good luck! I hope you find something that works for you.

I hate gluten Apprentice

Mom- I would highly recommend mirena like cyber said. I could not take any form of bc until Mirena had an IUD without hormome. It is great. I would reccomend it to anyone who has children and plan on not having anymore for at least 5 years or at all. Talk to your ob about it. Good luck and I am glad you had your children before your diagnosis.

So, I contacted Scott Adams, the author of that article and also the creator/admin of this website, and pointed out to him the need to clarify the information in the paragraph in question. He has now updated the paragraph and it is clear that the DGP-IGA does serve the purpose of circumventing the false negatives that IGA deficiencies can generate in the tTG-IGA antibody test.

Has anyone experimenced enlarged lymph nodes with celiac? Both in the neck and groin area. Imaging of both areas have said that lymph nodes are reactive in nature. However, they have been present for months and just wondering how long this may take to go down. Been gluten-free for about two months. Blood counts are normal.

Hmm interesting I just assumed that any “IGA” tests including the DPG iga would be negative in a person who is IGA deficient but maybe that is not the case for the DPG test.

If you were just diagnosed I can say that if you go 100% gluten-free should should see dramatic improvement of your symptoms over the next few months, but the hard part is to stay gluten-free. This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):
