Miserable

I have recently been put on the gluten free diet [as well as dairy free] and I'm still trying to get the hang of it. I'm not eating perfectly but I've had a miserable time so far - lots of stomach cramping and even some diarrhea the last few days. I'm feeling so discouraged because these are they symptoms I was trying to get rid of in the first place!

What I'm wondering are if some of the ingredients in the gluten-free foods that I'm eating are going to cause some of this stomach discomfort? I've eaten a lot of the gluten free crackers, cookies, and breads to replace their counterparts that I love so much. Has anyone had a similar experience when changing their diet over or am I alone here????

At first you need to stay away from the processed foods. Eat meat, veggies, and fruit. Let your gut heal for a while before you start introducing new things. I have been gluten free since Oct 2008. I am 49 years old but I feel as if I am 20. To be quite honest with you the processed foods arent good for anyone. Keep it simple. I eat lots of greens now. Before I was diagnosed I never ate greens. I go to a nutrionist that also has Celiac and she has taught me that greens are usually very calming for us. Just today I had steamed collard greens with grilled chicken and 1/4 c brown rice. I will tell you the first 4-6 weeks of going gluten free was a roller coaster ride. Your body goes through many changes. You will need to listen to what your body is telling you. If you eat it and it doesnt sit right with your body dont eat it. Good luck to you. Oh and by the way you must go completely gluten free. Forever. You have no choice. It is poison to you. You wouldnt drink anti-freeze would you?

Cat is right on! I also feel like I'm 20. I'm 53 and have suffered from this disease since my teens, but wasn't diagnosed until 51! I've spent most of my life extremely fatigued and anemic.

I follow the specific carbohydrate diet. I gave up a lot, but also am eating delicious food and am no longer miserable! WHOO HOOO!

I believe simple, natural and plain food will make me better.

.

I also make 24 hour yogurt that is delicious and lactose free. Check out the diet. It may work for you also.

Enlarged lymph nodes in neck and groin with celiac are not uncommon. They can take time to reduce even after going gluten-free. Monitoring is key.

Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.

"her stool study showed she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that." The wording of this part of the sentence does not make any sense at all. I don't mean to insult you, but is English your first language? This part of the sentence sounds like it was generated by translation software.

What kind of stool test was done? Can you be more specific?
