Hello. I recently found out I am pregnant (about 8 weeks along). This is my first pregnancy after being diagnosed with Celiac disease. I developed Celiac after the birth of my first son. I am completely gluten free. I haven't had my first appt yet and was wondering if there is anything I should be concerned about with having Celiac disease and being pregnant? Did anyone else have other problems while being pregnant? Also, has anyone else had more cramping during early pregnancy (stomach not uterine)? I seem to be having more cramping and stomach problems even though I am gluten free. They feel like the kind of cramps and pain when I get glutened but I definitely haven't had any gluten. Any info you can give me would be great.
Thanks,
Lindsay

Hello. I think out stories are pretty similar... even down to being about 8 weeks pregnant, too.
This time has been a little more difficult for me, too. It's hard for me to eat in the morning, so I eat a little bit, like a Lara Bar or something small... then wait for my stomach to calm. I try to just eat little bits during the day, which is what I'd been doing prior to my pregnancy.
Celiac has made my whole gut pretty sensitive, I could eat anything before my first was born. I think that since I'm already sensitive, being pregnant just makes it worse.
I did ask my doctor about any risks to this pregnancy because of being celiac, and he feels that since I've been gluten-free for over a year and am very strict with my diet, it shouldn't be a concern. Makes sense to me.

haha congrats. That makes sense about the pregnancy making it worse. I have a pretty sensitive stomach too. Hopefully this goes away after the first trimester. I really hope my doctor knows what celiac disease is. I have never been to her before as I just moved to this town. I really don't feel like explaining celiac disease to another person lol.

My girlfriend has celiac and just delivered our son 6 weeks ago. The only thing the doctors really had her do was drink 2 ensures a day to make sure she had the proper nutrients along with regular meals that she would normaly have and 1 smaller bottle of gatorade. After starting the ensure and gatorade the cramping was gone.

hi, jessica, welcome!
i just visited my OB last sat., i wouldn't suggest that you start your vits right now, i guess you should ask first your OB, for right dosage, etc.
i started drinking ensure once a day and a glass of Welch grape juice, i guess you can also start with that. lots of fresh fruits, vegetables, and meat. am still coping, doing researches, for gluten-free vits/meds. i dont know if my OB is well equipped with DH, im her 1st celiac disease patient. i will be seeing my dermatologist tomorrow, my DH is not so good these past weeks, hoping for the best.
dont feel so bad, just enjoy and be happy, we have an angel in our wombs, and thats the best thing to celebrate.
feel free to PM me, if you have questions.
