H.pylori

hmm...i just typed out a long post, and it seemed to have disappeared...i will try this again....

when i originally went to the dr 3 weeks ago, they told me I had h.pylori...and as an added bonus, i found out i had celiac <_<

the dr wanted to through a massive regimen of antibiotics plus more at me, totaling 14 pills a day, including 7 antibiotic pills a day of 2 different antibiotics. I freaked, and said i did not feel comfortable with it, since i am already allergic to 3 different antibiotics, and taking these at such a large dose seems scary to me, and the possibility of having to add 2 more to my "don't" list. though i do know this is the standard cure for this pesky bacteria.

so since then i have been taking omeprazole once a day and feel fine. my initial complaint was occasional reflux. my husband is getting tested friday since it is contagious, and his tummy issues are way worse than mine to where over-the-counter meds don't seem to help much. he is also getting tested for celiac (he is english, and i heard they are more likely to have it?) i will decide after his test about what to do.

i have some friends, a couple, who had this..took the meds, and still had the bacteria, so they said it was a huge waste of time. plus i can't imagine the meds...14 pills a day for 2 weeks can do any good for my tummy.

i read Manuka honey can help..but i am not sure how often and how much. i have also been having a cup of keifer a day.

does anyone have experience with this? and if so any natural remedies? also do you think there is any connection between this and celiac? or that this brought the celiac out?

thanks!!

My understanding of H pylori is that it's an acid loving bacteria and the only way to get rid of it is 1 or 2 different antibiotics along with ppis. You also frequently have to treat the person's partner, as it can be passed through kissing. On the other hand, many people have H pylori but are completely asymptomatic.

If it isn't causing you any problems, you might just want to skip the treatment.

My husband is getting tested this Friday, and i will have my daughter tested as well. We share a lot of food, and co-sleep (she is 4), and she has been burping lately :( So I want to make sure she is OK too.

I've not heard of the DNA test I will definitely look into that. And I did not know that the neuropathy was symptoms of vitamin deficiency. I have been trying to get on a good vitamin regimen. Thank you!

My GI Doctor took blood work and said my Iron levels were actually high. But they took my blood a couple weeks after my infusion so I'm thinking that's why they were showing so high, but they knew I had the infusions. The infusions did help greatly but I am also on an Iron pill that I can instantly notice if I have not taken it for a few days.  Yes, I have read up on that! Thank you so much! I sure that will be fun! Hahaha

@shadycharacter, did you mean to reply to another post about sourdough bread? The present thread isn't about that.

Thanks for your response. It seems to be only with gluten, illness, or vaccination.

Welcome to the forum, @LimpToeTheTimeless Bone growth plates close in the late teens to early twenties, so it's doubtful you'll grow much taller, but you may start to bulk up in muscle.  Remember to boost your absorption of vitamins and minerals needed to build muscle by eating a nutritionally dense diet and supplementing with essential vitamins and minerals, especially Thiamine B1, to counteract the malabsorption caused by Celiac Disease.
