Malt Powder?

Good evening!!

is there such a thing as gluten-free malt powder ??

I know the unsafe ingredients list shows a rice malt (without koji or barley) , is it the same as the malt powder I'm used to ....as in Horlick's or Carnation , used in making malted milkshakes??

Malt is a "red flag" because if the source is not specified it is usually barley, which is a source of gluten. When the source is specified, as in "rice malt" then you can consider the source to decide whether it is a source of gluten. Rice, whether malted or not, is not a source of gluten and is safe for celiacs (unless another reason exists to avoid rice). Sorghum is malted to make gluten-free beer and, again, since the source of the malt is known, and is gluten-free, the product is safe for those of us who adhere to a gluten-free diet.

I googled rice malt. It seems to be mainly a sweetener, unlike Carnation malt used in milk shakes, which isn't sweet at all. Not only that, some do contain barley. This one contains sprouted barley.

Mitoku Authentic Natural Rice Malt.

Doesn't sound like a very good replacement.

      Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep...

      Constant low back, abdominal and pelvic pain!

      I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.
