One Year Re-test For My Son

My son hit his one year anniversary back in March and recently had his blood tested for antibodies. I got the phone call today saying his results are "better" then they were a year ago when he was diagnosed. I asked the nurse if she could be more specific but she couldn't. I am having the results mailed to me and I also had then faxed to his GI so I can get more answers. But, between now and then I am a wreck. I am concerned that any antibodies showed up at all. Doesn't that mean he is getting gluten from somewhere? Shouldn't the results be zero?

I want to add that his original IgE was 3904 with the ref range being <OR=280. Does that make sense to anyone?

the numbers vary from lab to lab. Some labs say any number under ten or five is excellent...

Check on what his level was when he first was dx'd then what the number is currently. You also can ask for copies to keep for yourself..........

Plus I know about five kids that are just one year into the gluten-free lifestyle & their numbers have come down greatly but still not below 20 -25 so they still have a way to go. NOt uncommon....

I would worry if the numbers were for instance 30 & now were 28.......after a year....

Lets hope for the best!

The results probably won't be zero - they generally aren't 0 in even 'normal' populations.

      Sounds like you are in the UK. With blood numbers that high, I thought docs in UK would give an official diagnosis without the biopsy. You should ask about that, so you can get support faster.  I'd try to find and print out anything that supports that in your country, get another appointment and take all of it with you. Even in the US now, some docs are doing this, my 19 year old step granddaughter got an official diagnosis here in US with just blood results a few months ago.

      Is soy sauce in Korea also made from wheat like it usually is in US? I'd be concerned that even if asking about gluten, they would not be aware of or think of some like that.

      That's a good idea. It can at least establish the potential for developing celiac disease and can help people decided between a celiac diagnosis and NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity). And it doesn't require a gluten challenge and can be had without a doctor's prescription.

      Anyone had endoscopy with a cold/cough???

      I have my endoscopy on Thursday, has anyone had the procedure done with a cough? I don't have a continuous cough, but every now and then throughout the day I have sort of coughing episodes. They are a lot better than they were but I called endoscopy and they said to speak to my gp and my gp got back to me and said I need to ask endoscopy if its ok if I have it done still.  Help!

      Thank you so much, everyone. For the moment my doctor just has me taking iron but hopefully we can reconnect soon. I'm going to look into genetic testing, too. Great advice all around and I appreciate it--and you can bet I'm going off the PPIs!
