Going to Charleston and am looking for safe places to eat...not chains but some of the popular local restaurants. Any suggestions?

As of 8/09 - Candida Overgrowth, C.difficile overgrowth, elevated fecal anti-gliadin, elevated putrefactive SCFA's

Developed severe lactose intolerance, IBS and food sensitivities in 02 after contracting Giardia from a river in Oregon

Had negative celiac blood work in 02

Elevated stool anti-gliadin Ab (21 with 10 being cutoff for normal) - 2008

Positive for DQ8- 2008

Tested high positive for egg, dairy, soy, ginger, mustard - 2008

Lactulose/Mannitol (leaky gut) test indicated slight intestinal permeability

Improved with gluten free diet but still have spastic constipation

Will you have access to a car? I had the same question, googled, and found The Fat Hen: http://www.thefathen.com/ It is not what you would call conveniently located, but the food was awesome. At Saturday brunch, gluten free offerings were pretty much limited to an omelet, so you might want to go some other time than that. Otherwise, very strongly recommended.

More centrally located is the Wreck of the Richard and Charlene: http://www.wreckrc.com/ but it's hard to find. Call for directions and write them down. Only open for supper.

About '02, lactose intolerance hit. Quit gluten in late '07. Immediately had better energy, less anxiety.
By '09, no lactose intolerance, but I gave up dairy 7/18/09 anyway (and in August soy). Restarted dairy, Nov' '10; stopped for good, December.
9/12/09 Wound up in the emergency room with what turned out to be hypothyroid symptoms. Resolved quickly when I got my iodine levels up. If you're on a whole foods diet, make sure you get enough iodine. Believe me!
PS: Fluoridation sucks.

Slightly North of Broad SNOB http://www.mavericks...snob/index.html Most awesome and wonderful gluten-free menu... Shrimp and grits, ahi tuna with amazing sauce. They rock. Please tell them that Sam, Maddie and Hil from Spartanburg SC sent you... May not remember us, but the more impact we make and mentions made the more they will help all of us! It is right on East Bay street, so fun!

Don't know if you've been and gone already, or (judging by your thread today) if you've given up on restaurants, but I found another one on this very site: Crave Kitchen in Mount Pleasant. I'll add a link momentarily.
