Hello guys!

I'm an Italian celiac girl. On Sunday August 16th I'll flight to the USA and i'll stay there for 10 days for an organized tour with some friends of mine in these cities: New York, Amherst, Toronto, Sayre, Beltsville, Washington, Miami.

It is an organized tour, breakfasts and dinners are organized but the lunch is free.. so I ask to you if you can suggest to me any restaurant, bar or something like this where can I eat for the lunch en each Town that I wrote in the title...

I would to know also if in those cities there are some stores, markets or shops specialized to sell celiac foods, if you know any of these, please give me the address so I can buy something to eat during the transfer from-to the cities by bus..

I'm looking forwar to hearing from you soon

Best regards

Daniela

Good gravy, Daniela, that's quite a trip! Here's some past threads on those places, and some other information:
New York:

Amherst:
http://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.ph...&pid=342147 (See the reply, marked #2. This is from 2007, but hopefully some of this still applies.)
Toronto:
http://www.celiac.co...showtopic=38695 (also 2007)
Sayre:
I guess this is Sayre, PA. There's a health food store in Elmira, NY, 40 miles away: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&um=1...285023755021276 Sorry, best I could do.
Beltsville:
There's a pho place there; these are usually gluten-free, but you have to ask to be sure: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&um=1...539423834191218
Washington:
http://www.celiac.co...showtopic=14866 Thread started in '06, but there are some excellent newer posts on the second page. Personally I recommend very strongly Mitsitam Cafe at the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian: http://www.nmai.si.edu/subpage.cfm?subpage...&third=plan (scroll to the bottom)
Miami:
http://www.celiac.co...showtopic=60127
Miami might be a problem, based on the replies in that thread; anyway, they have a few Whole Foods Markets locations: http://www.google.com/#hl=en&q=whole+f...;fp=uJKuPBMYFsU
The Whole Foods homepage (linked repeatedly at the link above) has a store locator, so you can find out where there are Whole Foods Markets near the other places you're visiting. Whole Foods is very good because they have a good selection of gluten free foods (though you may have to ask for help, as it can be hard to find) and also hot food buffets with each item's ingredients clearly marked. You can eat there at tables provided.
Hope this helps.
The fluffy assassin? My cat, Amelia. Just fluffy, really.
About '02, lactose intolerance hit. Quit gluten in late '07. Immediately had better energy, less anxiety.
By '09, no lactose intolerance, but I gave up dairy 7/18/09 anyway (and in August soy). Restarted dairy, Nov' '10; stopped for good, December.
9/12/09 Wound up in the emergency room with what turned out to be hypothyroid symptoms. Resolved quickly when I got my iodine levels up. If you're on a whole foods diet, make sure you get enough iodine. Believe me!
PS: Fluoridation sucks.
