Hello, Our family (mom, dad, three little kids - everyone but dad is gluten-free) will be spending a long weekend in Milwaukee. We are planning on taking all of our own food, but thought maybe we should see if there are gluten-free restaurants out there just in case we feel adventurous. We are new (this summer) to gluten-free and have not eaten ouy anywhere. Well, we tried Wendy's fries about 2 weeks into it and got sick. I asked them if it was a dedicated fryer and they said yes, but we have since that that is rarely the case.

I am getting a bit nervous about packing absolutely everything. Thanks goodness we are driving, we will probably need a rooftop carrier for all our food.......

I visited Wisconsin last summer and it was like Heaven for Celiacs! I was in the Madison area, and there was a pizza place w/gluten-free pizza, dessert, and beer called Bunky's and a farmer's market where a gluten free table was set up every week. There were gluten free bakeries, too. Google the celiac group for that area and check out the restaurant lists and bakeries. Silly Yak Bakery. The midwest's regular grocery stores also had gluten free aisles. It was awesome.

UBake - stores in Madison and Janesville. The have pre-made, but frozen gluten free goodies. Their apple pie and pizza crusts are delicious. They also have donut holes, cookie mixes, breads... VERY reasonably priced, too

Basics - in Janesville. I have never been here, but my mom LOVES it. They have quite a large selection of gluten free stuff.

I also second the Gluten Free Trading Co. I get their catalog and it is quite impressive!

There is also a gluten free bakery in Pewaukee, WI.

For groceries, go to Whole Foods, or even better, Outpost Natural Foods (local co-op). They have the best selection of flours (from Bob's Red Mill and others), and every possible organic gluten-free food out there.
