Been in SC awhile but diagnosed gluten sensitivity for about 1 year now. Looking for friends, support groups, or anyone interested in sharing their experiences locally as well as via internet.

Thank you, E. :D

Sure, I'm one. I'll be back momentarily with links to earlier SC threads, but here's the support group in Columbia: http://centralscceliacsupportgroup.club.of...om/default.aspx Meetings are the third Monday of the month, this month the 21st, at 6:30. Every other month, including this one, the meeting is at Capital Senior Center, behind Maxcy Gregg Park in Columbia. The other months, the meetings are at various restaurants with gluten-free menus. If you aren't in or near Columbia, call Sandra at the number at the link; she should know what groups are active in other parts of the state.

Not surprisingly, a lot of this stuff is out of date, but at least it demonstrates that there are celiacs in SC.

Welcome to the board, the diet, and belatedly, to SC!
The fluffy assassin? My cat, Amelia. Just fluffy, really.
About '02, lactose intolerance hit. Quit gluten in late '07. Immediately had better energy, less anxiety.
By '09, no lactose intolerance, but I gave up dairy 7/18/09 anyway (and in August soy). Restarted dairy, Nov' '10; stopped for good, December.
9/12/09 Wound up in the emergency room with what turned out to be hypothyroid symptoms. Resolved quickly when I got my iodine levels up. If you're on a whole foods diet, make sure you get enough iodine. Believe me!
PS: Fluoridation sucks.
