Dental Floss?

Wandering Hermit

I'm afraid of my dental floss now - there is no ingredients list, yet it is flavored, and who knows what all goes into the 'wax' they put on it. Does anyone know anything about this?

Also, what about trips to the dentist? Do you talk to him ahead of time to be sure that none of the substabces they use in cleaning your teeth has gluten?

I don't know about the dental floss. I do talk with my dentist. Our folders are flagged and they double check to ensure that the cleaners and mouthwash they use are gluten-free. He provides us with these little plastic toothpick things to use instead of floss. They come in a little box and we each keep one in our purse and one at home on the counter. So far we have not had a problem.

Note: I just tried to add this reply and got an error message, so if it comes up more than once, you will know why.

I know when I go to the dentist the stuff they clean my mouth with my mom called about and they told us what flavors were gluten free. My mom wanted to check instead of having the dentist check...just to really hear it with her ears from the company.

We get the little toothpick like things with just string on it(not waxed or flavored)

I called Johnson and Johnson on this one and they said that their flosses were gluten free.

The last time I went to my dentist I called ahead of time and told him about the gluten issue, he said that he knew because he had another patient who had Celiac. As he was ready to fill my crumbling tooth he swabbed a solution on my gum and in 10 minutes I had severe brain fog. My husband had to help me out of the office, I was so disoriented I could hardly write out my check, This feeling lasted about 2 hours. Make sure you ask to read the labels, I'm not going back to him. I always have problems at the dentist. I did find one who did everything right but we moved out of the area. <_<

The last time I used floss, I had a major gluten reaction/anaphalitic shock (I'm allergic to wheat also) So I use those little gold things with the rubber tip, because I know that they are safe.

Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.

"her stool study showed she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that." The wording of this part of the sentence does not make any sense at all. I don't mean to insult you, but is English your first language? This part of the sentence sounds like it was generated by translation software.

What kind of stool test was done? Can you be more specific?
    • mishyj
Perhaps I should also have said that in addition to showing a very high response to gluten, her stool study showed that she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that.
