I have been getting small doses of gluten from SOMEWHERE for the last four days.

Today, Yesterday and the two days before that.

I have not been eating the same things, and doubt that I am getting the same gluten from different things 4 days in a row.

The only thing I have been taking for 4 days is my new pack of birth control, Ortho Tri-Cyclen...

I get sick a couple hours after taking it, which is my normal 'sickness time'...

Has anyone else had a 'small glutening' problem with OTC?

Hey! Here is a link of a thread from last year. At that time, it looks like Ortho Tri-Cyclen was gluten free. Clearly the formula could have changed since then and may not be now, but it was at one point.

I used to take Ortho Tri-Cyclen, but my doctor switched me to a different pill about 2 years ago. I took Ortho for about 7 years. At first I was taking it in the mornings and was always sick about 2 hours later -- I called my doctor about it and she said that the hormone levels in the pill can cause some people to get a little sick when they take it and that sometimes that feeling can go away if you take later on in the day (late afternoon/early evening). So, I changed it up and started taking it around 5 everyday, and no more sickness. I don't know what time of day you are taking it, but maybe that could help?

Right now I am taking Ovcon (which is on the gluten free list too) and I have been taking it for the past 2 years or so. No sickness problems so far because of it!!

Thanks! I guess they either changed the ingredients, or I just got a pack full of CC. I have been taking these for two years, so I doubt I would be getting llllaaaatttteeeee side effects of it.

You absolutely can get "late" side effects. it took about two years for me on OTC to discover that my body did not like synthetic hormones any more. I tried other types of HBC, but Mirena and NuvaRing were all a wash. I had to go off HBC and use FAM and condoms. (Though I later discovered I was testosterone deficient, so I still took some hormones Turns out, use of birth control over long periods (even as "short" as a year) decreases testosterone levels in many women, and those levels can take years to come back to normal.)

Yes, but they don't give gluten symptoms..

this might be obvious but just in case... make sure it's not a reaction to the generic form as opposed to the real thing!!

I was on birth control pills for years with no real problems, but after about 5 years started to have reactions. 2 years later, they were making me SO sick I got off of them altogether and got a copper IUD. best decision I've ever made!

I was on Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo for about six or seven years with no problem... then about 3 months ago a generic version came out and the pharmacy started giving me that - that gave me acne REALLY bad, but no glutenings (and the pharmacy checked and told me it was gluten-free).
