Help
Im not sure but I think my daughter may have gotten glutened at Outback Steak House. We ate there on Halloween night and the waitress and staff assured us that everything was ok and they changed gloves etc. so I am not sure if she got glutened. She had not had any headaches or earaches since going gluten free 5 months ago and now I am frustrated because I don't know what is going on. If she did get glutened does anyone know how long it may take for her to feel better? It has been a week now and yesterday she seemed to feel a little better and then this morning she says her head hurts like it did at the beginning of the week. Tylenol does not seem to be helping and she has been on Augmentin for the earache for 4 days now. Anyone else experience these set backs? Just not sure if it is gluten related or not.
Guess I just need to vent somewhere as I feel this gluten free thing just got blown out of the water and now we are back at square one and the thing is we don't know if it is due to being glutened or something else. One thing we are sure of is that we are not going to eat out anywhere again. It is just not worth the risk. Oh Yeah, by the way we did eat at Outback for her birthday in July at the beginning of being gluten free and everything was great. Just so disappointed now.

If she had an ear infection, and is on antibiotics, there's no way to separate the infection or treatment from gluten as a possible cause, unless she came down with the headache and it stayed around for a while *before* either came up. And, since ear infections can go unnoticed for a while, I'd say even that would be really hard to determine.

I agree - it is going to be hard to tell.
My daughter had to be dairy free for almost 2 years due to serve ulcers that would make her vomit uncontrollably. Once she started treatment, I asked that dr. if she gets sick how in the world am I to know if it from the uclers or the stomach flu or something she ate. He said, that I would just have to chart what was happening and how long it lasted.
If you daughter gets head-aches and feels terrible with ear infections then I would probably say that is the cause. If she normally doesn't than I would say it was the gluten. There are so many viruses going around, she might have a couple of things happening at the same time.
Good luck - I hope she gets better fast from what ever it is.
