I Found Bread! (australia)

Hi! I haven't written on here in aaaaaaages (i've been lurking hehe :P) but I got so excited about some bread I found that I just had to shout it from the forum rooftops!

It's from a gluten-free bakery in Sydney but they deliver around eastern Australia. It's called Choices Gluten Free (Open Original Shared Link) and they only make gluten-free stuff so there's no chance of contamination (i've had problems with contamination at non dedicated bakeries before). All the loaves of bread are free from gluten, egg, soy and dairy, and they have all sorts of other goodies which aren't as free of allergens as the loaves but sound delicious (I've had the chocolate danishes so far *drool emoticon*).

I've still needed to toast the bread before munching it but I actually enjoy eating it! I've been having toasted sandwiches for lunch these past few days and haven't needed to smother them in condiments to take the bread flavour away like I used to do, yay!!

My favourites so far are the pumpkin and herb bread, the multigrain bread and the fruit bread. I've got some bread rolls and bagels in the freezer which are awaiting me so i'll have to let you know what they're like too :)

I'll have to start writing more often with my discoveries! (loving Orgran crispibread too)

I hope you all have a very merry and gluten free Christmas! :D

Isn't it great when you find something you love? I have tried Choices products and they aren't bad but I definately prefer Lifestyle Bakery. www.lifestylebakery.com.au . Their Chia seed Loaf is the best Gluten Free bread on the market in my opinion. I cant wait for easter when they release their hot cross buns!!!

Oooh i've heard about that bread! I haven't managed to find it yet though :( Does it have soy in it? I'm not that great with soy...would make an exception for extreme deliciousness though :P

Have you tried the Naturis Organic Gluten free Buckwheat loaf? We really like it. I buy about 6 loaves a week and then just repackage them into 4 slices in a zip log and freeze them. We toast them before we have them. You can buy the bread at Franklins or Harris Farmers . I don

I'm a choices devotee, I don't eat any other bread as have been majorly disappointed by the others.

I treated myself to the brownies the other day, they were pretty good but more of a muffin I suppose. Still worth having though, much better than their biscuts.

I'm with Aussie peg - I love their fruit bread, it's so lovely. I use the wholemeal for everyday, with occasional pizza bases. I had the bagels the other day, they had a good outer texture.

If you can make it to the original choices shop ( I think it's in turramurra) there are a couple of shops next to it that have some good gluten-free products too :)

I'll be keeping my eye out for the naturis too, can't hurt to have some variety. If you get a chance to try the freevos banana bread mix, go for it, I made my gluten-eating family jealous with it!

Hello Peggy and all

Hello to others also from Australia. I got excited I found bread too, and I am near Brisbane a couple of hours away. Isn't that wonderful.

I found mine at Woolworths in Lismore, but I am sure that u may be able to go to other Woolworths as well, to give it a try. Will keep also that bread in mind.

The bread I found was

Gluten Free Country Life Bakery, White. But it is not milk and egg free, and has other things in it as well. If I end up with what I think I have allergy wise, then we are probably not going to be able to eat this, but will have to look at the bread u have just said. I wonder if Woolworths could order some in?

It is good to share info, because u can get a choice as well. I also found a good range of gluten-free products in Woolworths, which really surpised me and delighted me.

BTW I have been going to Brisbane Weekly seeing specialists at Greenslopes. Going to Windsor in Brisbane again for my family's allergy test. And then possibly laser treatment for allergies etc...r u near there?

Have a great day

Peace 4 1

Hi All,

I'll have to try that Choices bread. I was just diagnosed this week, and tried my first gluten free bread a few hours ago and it wasn't very appetising! The pasta on the other hand, was pretty tasty, I guess you've got to take the good with the bad :)

I live on the Gold Coast, but go to Brisbane regularly does anyone know any tips for local places that sell tasty gluten free food? I've heard Sol breads are good, but have yet to try them??

Thanks :)

I've posted about how much I love choices in the past, but I've found another bread that I like even more!

Zehnder bread - stocked in IGA stores mostly. I had the wholemeal, it was amazing! It does have more ingredients than choices, I think it includes soy and yeast so it won't agree with as many people, but it really was delicious. It had that bounciness to the bread, I made my non-gluten-free family members taste it and they were impressed!

I was away from home at the time I found it so I toased it in my fry pan, it's great as long as you make sure you dry it out really thoroughly.

I'm off to get some more, but will stick with choices too :)

I have found I love the Brighterlife bread mix. There is no Wheat, Soy, Egg, Gluten, Corn, Artificial Colours, Preservatives, Yeast, Salicylates, Amines, Casein, Fructose, Low in Fat

and Low in Sugar. The cake mixes and pikelet mixes are great too - there is a CWA style cookbook too where you can make nearly anything by a simple 2 minute mix :) As soon as I ate it - it just felt GOOD for me...

I'm also a nurse, but one who has worked in chronic care, and to some extent, it is more satisfying to see patients through to a diagnosis (as opposed to working in the ED), but an accurate diagnosis does not occur not as often as it should! Your posting presents a lot of information. But a couple of things I can respond to. One, celiac disease is diagnosed by endoscopy and biopsy of the duodenum. So, pathology will need to weigh in. It's not diagnosed on gastroscopy. (At least, not as far as I know). Two, did you get blood tests for celiac disease? You will need to be eating gluten in order for those to be accurate. Three, where was the CT angiogram (of what)? I could go on and on, but thought I'd start there.

Was a biopsy done when you had your gastroscopy? Concerning your anemia, are you B12 deficient? It's nearly impossible to get sufficient B12 if you are a vegetarian unless you take supplements.

And I’m anaemic, however I’m also female and vegetarian. I had an iron trans a couple of years ago however it’s starting to dwindle and taking supplements doesn’t seem to work. I can’t seem to absorb it.

Hi, I attended a neurologist appt last Tuesday, which I nearly cancelled, due to ongoing numbness and tingling in toes to mid foot. One of the first things he asked was ‘are you celiac’. I’m not. He thought all reflexes were ok but at the last minute decided on nerve conduction tests which were low normal. He was a little confused as he felt they should be better and tried a new set of probs, all the time, giving me multiple shocks which were not enjoyable lol. Anyway, he’s now ordered tests for myeloma, and all the vitaminy things that so many of you mention on here, also tests looking for autoimmune responses. I already have Hashimotos. Interestingly, to me, but maybe someone out there can relate or knows more than i do, although I was a nurse, but ED not ‘weird symptoms’  nurse. Anyway back to the interesting thing, I took duramine in 2013 to lose weight which caused a massive panic attack when I stopped taking it and half my hair fell out. I only took it for a week but it was horrible and I regret it. It triggered ongoing panic attacks which are horrendous. So I feel like I’m a bit crazy. Then in 2020 I had this sudden onset of horrible pain when trying to eat a cinnamon roll. It continued and I lost around 20 kgs. I had two gastroscopes and a colonoscopy and they were all normal. I scored a barium swallow and CT angiogram. All normal. The pain subsided a little but I was left with reflux and an awful feeling that I couldn’t get air when I ate some foods. This was not anxiety.  The anxiety was separate and I still maintain this. This was something to do with eating. It was like the air was thick but I wasn’t short of breath. I just had the sensation I was, then it triggered anxiety. Anyway, I had other weird things- couldn’t bend knees to shave legs in shower lol. Knees felt stiff and swollen but they weren’t. Knee WOUld swell up randomly but mri showed minimal issues. A bit of a meniscus degeneration but insignificant. Then the buzzing sensations in my head, the feeling like someone was stabbing me with something sharp. So now, I pre empted his tests, although I don’t think I’m celiac because it should have come up on gastroscopy, I’ve gone off gluten. Since Tuesday last week so 9 days. Since then I don’t appear to be as constipated, I realised I got through today without a nap and I’m not tired, maybe it’s just today and not related but I get very tired normally and sleep straight after work often, I can bend my knees and shave my legs lol, the buzzing vibrating has gone from my head, I had to call and ambulance as my heart decided we were off on a run, but we weren’t running and I’ve been a bit twitchy at bed time when trying to sleep, reflux is improving, I did get the weird suffocating feeling a bit when eating today but not as bad normall. Tingling and numbness still present and I felt like it moved up my legs a bit today but I’m a bit jittery. So I don’t know if it’s celiac disease or a gluten intolerance but I think, and it may be wishful thinking because my symptoms do make life a bit challenging, but maybe I’m feeling better. I don’t feel as cloudy. My thinking feels crisper. Like there’s no buzzing and I’m not fighting to break through the cloudiness now. I hope so much that this may help me feel a bit better moving forward. It would be a miracle as I really have struggled to work and parent and keep the house clean and I’m always anxious and exhausted.  If you get this far, please tell me if you you can relate to any of the above. Oh and tonsils out 5 years ago but before that antibiotics multiple times a year, sometimes intramuscular because they were so bad.  Op was meant to take 30 mins, it took 1.5 hours due to size of them.
