Excessive Hunger?

Does anyone with celiac disease remember if they had Chonic or excessive hunger before diagnosis when they were eating gluten? Also what is the signifignance of low Siga? Is Secretory IgA important or no?

I had very low Siga 11 (400-800) Does this make my gut leaky to the point where I would not absorb food causing my weight loss as well?

I was excessively hungry for several months before going gluten-free. It got progressively worse..and I was always craving cereal and wheat-y foods. It was pretty miserable because every time I ate, I'd feel so full, bloated, gassy, and just total discomfort but my stomach would be empty within an hour of eating and I'd feel like I needed the food. Vicious cycle! After going gluten-free, my hungry eventually subsided and I don't crave cereal at all anymore. (and when I say crave, I was going through a box a day! It was almost all I was eating). I'm not sure about your other questions, though.

when I was doing the gluten challenge I noticed that I was always hungry (despite the bloating and gastric discomfort!).

No idea about your blood tests though.

Well I had a postive anti-giladin along with that, but am uncertain that that is enough to confirm.

I used to have that problem. I was ravenous all the time and could eat anyone under the table. I never seemed to reach a point of satiety. After gowing gluten free, my hunger cues are different and it does not take much to fill me up. For being so short and petit, it must have been a sight to see little me consuming practically an entire table full of food. I am now able to tell when I have been accidentally glutened simply based on the fact that I will finish all of my food; I simply will not get full. I have also noticed that when I am glutened (I am intolerant and have somewhat silent symptoms),my alcohol tolerance is extremely high also. When I am not glutened, I have to be careful about my wine consumption, even though I enjoy red wine very much, 2 glasses will get me intoxicated, unlike before my diagnosis when I would have been able to drink 2 bottles.

No, actually. I had been severely underweight my entire life up until about mid-puberty when I had a BMI that would be considered average. Although, for my bone structure it may have been borderline chubby. I attribute the weight increase to my body's adaption to gluten, which just made me eat like crazy. last year before going gluten free I was 105 lbs at 5'0, but have now dropped 30 lbs. It seems that each person has their own different type of weight issue in regards to pre- and post- gluten diets.

Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.

"her stool study showed she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that." The wording of this part of the sentence does not make any sense at all. I don't mean to insult you, but is English your first language? This part of the sentence sounds like it was generated by translation software.

What kind of stool test was done? Can you be more specific?
    • mishyj
Perhaps I should also have said that in addition to showing a very high response to gluten, her stool study showed that she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that.
