How Long Until D Goes Away?

I'm curious to know how long it may take for my D to go away after going gluten-free? I know it probably varies for people but I've been gluten-free about a month now and I'm getting anxious for things to improve.

It does vary from person to person so there really is not a time I can give you. My symptoms improved tremendously by month 3 and then a few months after that I was back to normal.

Juat make sure you are completely gluten free because if not that can hold up the healing process. Have you checked products like lipsticks and stuff you put on your head, face, and hands...these products have a high risk of getting into your mouth so it's just good to make sure there is no way for gluten to get in.

Have you seen improvement from the diet yet? For some people it can take days or weeks and for others it will take several months so hang in there.

The thing that took away the runs for me was Carafate. I was allergic to the tablet though.

Get the suspension (nice cherry flavor). It doesn't have corn or starch in it. One of it's side affects is constipation. But it made bowel movement normal again (with some cramping on occasion).

It's actually an ulcer reliever/repairer. I was so acidic that it felt I was eliminating acid out the other end. So this relieved all of this. Try it, especially if it feels like you are moving acid through both ends. It also cleared up the "bm" smells (like baby's "bm"s).

Good luck. My Dr. told me to stay on it even when allergic to it because I needed it, and he WAS RIGHT!!!! Now that I am on the one without starch, I think things will normalize.

I am trying to use language that isn't inappropriate, but when you are talking about bowels it is very hard to do so... Have you noticed that?

Your language is fine. We probably talk more about bowels and BM's more than anything else here.

It only took about 3-4 months before I wasn't eating Immodium like candy, but it took a whole year before I found my bowel function to be "back to normal."

And now... I do not move my bowels as often... sometimes it's 2 or 3 days before I have to go.

You're so right... bowel discussions are hard... hahaha.

Still dealing with this rash on my legs. I've eliminated ringworm (through use of topical ointments). And I also know it's not shingles, as I've never had chickenpox before and I'm still fairly young. Through a lot of online research, I'm leaning more towards dermatitis herpetiformis, eczema, or psoriasis. I've actually got a doctor's appointment in May (finally got some insurance) and I'm going to bring it up then. I'm feeling really hopeful and excited to maybe be getting some relief soon.   Big thanks to everyone for the suggestions and positive thoughts!

You have three celiac disease specific antibody tests that are positive: Endomysial  Antibody IGA (aka, EMA), tTG-IGA, and tTG_IGG. Furthermore, your Immunoglobulin A at 55 is low, meaning you are IGA deficient. This one is not an antibody test for celaic disease per se but a measure of "total IGA" levels and if low (yours is low) it can suppress the individual antibody scores and even cause false negatives. So, yes, it definitely looks like you have celiac disease.   Do not yet begin a gluten free diet as your physician may refer you to a GI doc for an endoscopy/biopsy of the small bowel lining for confirmation of the antibody testing. This may help:

Hi, I received my labs via email yesterday and have not heard back from my doctor yet. Can anyone tell me if these results indicate I have Celiac?      Endomysial Antibody IgAPositive  Ft-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA6  H0-3 (U/mL) - Negative 0 - 3 - Weak Positive 4 - 10 - Positive >10 - Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) has been identified as the endomysial antigen. Studies have demonstrated that endomysial IgA antibodies have over 99% specificity for gluten-sensitive enteropathy. FImmunoglobulin A, Qn, Serum55  L87-352 (mg/dL) Ft-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgG183  H0-5 (U/mL) - Negative 0 - 5 - Weak Positive 6 - 9 - Positive >9

Mine is definitely triggered by inflammation and stress! I do also have arthritis in my spine, but the pain is more in my pelvic area. Im sure i have other food intolerances or other autoimmune isues but the more I focus on it and see doctor after doctor, it just gets worse.  Best thing is get of Gluten! (I also avoid lactose). Try to limit stress and anything that causes inflammation in your body.

Good morning,   I got an email about replies to this post. Some of my doctors had blamed a slipped disc for the pain I had and that contributes, but after meeting with a gastroenterologist AGAIN and trying some lifestyle modifications, I found out I have IBS and can't tolerate corn or excessive fructose to any degree. Cutting out corn AFTER having cut out all gluten containing products was a real pain but I feel much better now!
