Nyc Therapy?

Hi,

I was diagnosed about 2.5 months ago, and I was recently talking to a friend of mine who is a medical resident who said that in her program they really stress encouraging patients who are making big lifestyle changes (like all of us!) to see a therapist to talk through their struggles. This doesn't sound like a bad idea to me, but I have ZERO interest in seeing a therapist whom I would have to educate about what celiac IS.

Does anyone in NYC know of a good therapist who knows a lot about this disease? (I know that is going to be hard to find-- since we have so much trouble even finding gastroenterologists and nutritionists who seem to know anything!)

I don't know about anyone else but I find this board better than any therapy could ever be. I always find people who have been through what I have been through or worse :o . It's good to hear how they handled it and the support here is really fantastic, could a therapist really be as good as this board? Just think how much money you will save! :D

I agree that this board is also good therapy. It would probably be hard to find a therapist who knows about celiac, though... :( You could, though, mention celiac the first time you went, give a list of a few websites with which the therapist could educate himself/herself.

NY has among the best celiac drs., though. For adults, there's Green and he works with about six other doctors, who may not be Green, but are probably also good. Anne Lee is in my eyes the most knowledeable nutritionist when it comes to celiac and there's even a phenomenal pediatric celiac dr./GI w/ Columbia Prebysterian, Dr. Joseph Levy.

Yes, wheat is common in most soy sauces now because it speeds up the fermenting process.

For 16 years I have relied on the website glutenfreedrugs.com to determine if a pharmaceutical is gluten-free. The website has been down for at least a week. Does anyone have any information about this outage, the status of the website founder and maintainer pharmacist Steven A. Plogsted or a phone number? I did not get a response for my email to glutenfreedrugs@gmail.com in October of 2022. Steven did respond to my emails in 2012. Thanks.

Sounds like you are in the UK. With blood numbers that high, I thought docs in UK would give an official diagnosis without the biopsy. You should ask about that, so you can get support faster.  I'd try to find and print out anything that supports that in your country, get another appointment and take all of it with you. Even in the US now, some docs are doing this, my 19 year old step granddaughter got an official diagnosis here in US with just blood results a few months ago.

Is soy sauce in Korea also made from wheat like it usually is in US? I'd be concerned that even if asking about gluten, they would not be aware of or think of some like that.
