I'm not quite sure what to think of this new board!! It seems good, but we lost SOOOO much information in the switch. It seems so sad to have lost all that great info in the switch!! How does everybody else feel?

:blink: Hi Angel! I completely agree that I'm bummed about losing allll that great info from the other boards!! Hopefully this new system will get hopping with more info very soon. How long have you been diagnosed with celiac disease? For me it has been a little over 2 years & doing very very well - my docs are all so pleased with the positive changes in my weight & general health.

Today is my 1 year anniversary of getting my diagnosis, so just a year today. However, I have been sick FOREVER. When I was a baby I had colic, which I now wonder if it wasn't celiac disease. At age 3 was diagnosed with atopic dermatitis, which is a red flag for celiac disease. In high school had tests done and they said I had duodenitis, another red flag for celiac disease. Two years ago my immune system shut down, which is yet another red flag. Last year at this time they were about to take out my gall bladder!! We decided to do some scopes and he took biopsies and sent them to Mayo Clinic, and they diagnosed me with Celiac! WHEW what a year! I'm sooo glad to be feeling happy and healthy. I really don't think I have EVER felt this great.

:huh: i'm kind of bummed out with the loss of archived info too... hopefully people will start to add in some good info. it was a year for me in october and i'm feeling great!

I apologize for the loss of information from the old boards. I too was depressed to discover from our programmers that there was no reasonable way for me to include this inforation in the new boards. Hopefully the board will fill up with excellent information quickly. I also hope that everyone enjoys the great new features that the board offers.

:( I am devastated that all the information was lost. I have been on this diet for a year this month and did have my gallbladder out a year ago January. I am not feeling great yet and am still trying to find things I can eat without feeling bad. I guess my damage was more than some others. It is not that I am eating gluten, but other foods bother me now that didn't before so my diet is very limited and this year was a very stressful one for me with family problems too which didn't help anything. I still have trouble sitting up for long periods of time without being in pain for hours after that. I have had two endoscopies and on the last one woke up in the middle of it. I have changed doctors and my new doctor put me on some medication to stop the clenching which he thinks is caused by IBS. I also take Protonix for GERD. I know everyone is different, but I sure wish I could start eating more variety than just chicken, pork, fish and canned fruit and only soft vegetables and absolutely no dairy. I have not had anything really sweet in over a year and I don't think my body would know what to do with it.

I am disappointed as well, I agree that there will be a ton of good information lost.

Administrator, Is there anyway you can allow people to just read the information from the old boards once they are disabled? If not, when are old boards going to be destroyed? Thank you for your time.

Again, we have, and still are, working with programmers to see if there is a way to import the old board data. If we can we will. For those who are devistated that the info is gone you can still access the data for one month at:

Please copy and paste any important data you need info a Word document, as this data will not be available after January 2004.

Wow.... Um.... This new board is really nice, but I have no idea how to use all the extra features! I guess I'll learn soon. Was there any advance notice given about changing the message board? I think I remember a poll being taken, but was a decision ever announced? Did I miss something? I'm not criticizing, just a bit bewildered! I sometimes find change difficult to cope with at first, although after I adjust I wonder how I ever survived without it.

Thank you, Scott, for the tip about retrieving information from the old site! That eases the disorienting feeling of being suddenly cast adrift.

May 2004 bring a renewed sense of community, hope, and inspiration to us all!

I also am disappointed to find the old information gone. This board had the most information of anyplace I have been. Thanks to the site, it has helped me figure out what my problem was after 35 years. Thank you to all who helped me get there!

I love this new board, said that on another thread, but thought I would add my 2 cents here. I agree about the loss of information, but the old board was very difficult to use and clumsy. If there is anyway to save all that info though, that would be more than appreciated. I guess having a month to make copies of desired info is the same thing as having a months warning.

If the info can not be saved, is there any way to email all registered on the old boards and warn them. Some people only visit once every so often.

I just discovered this board! It's nice to meet you all. I was diagnosed with Celiac disease two years ago. I am anxious to learn from all of you. I missed out on all the old info but I'm ready for all the new stuff. Jenni

Was it made clear at the voting stage that all the precious information accumulated on here would be lost? I certainly hope there is a way of archiving all the old stuff, it was a lifeline for me in my early diagnosis and pre diagnosis days.

Hi Everyone, I am happy about the changes being made, since it is easier to get around, but I'm still learning all the new gadgets. I changed my user name, many of you know me as fernandofamily , now I am gf4life! Which more accurately describes me on this board! ;) I don't mind losing the old site, but there is a lot of valuable information being lost and I would like to see at least some of it saved.

Hi all,

There are many features I like about this new board. However, in my signature, the codes still appeared, so I tried to get them off. My signature is not quite the way I want it. Maybe I need to "close all tags." Small thing really.

How do I reply on the board to a specific post or person? All I have done so far is add my reply to the last one? Also, in the column headed "views" does that mean the number of people who just read the posts?

I must remember to copy recipes etc from the old board!

It is good to see this board filling up so fast. The old board will be long remembered as an excellent source of information.

Linda, I am also allergic to milk and dairy (along with wheat, grains, egg whites and yeast), but I eat sweet things each and every day and seem to thrive. Have you had bad reactions to sugar or other sweeteners?

I am on The Carbohydrate Addicts Diet, by Drs. Richard and Rachel Heller, and eat high protein, low carb foods all but one hour each day. That one hour I am allowed to indulge in any food or drinks which I can tolerate, and I am so happy to be able to create gluten free, milk and dairy free, egg white and yeast free desserts using sugar, honey, fructose, etc.

It's difficult to change sometimes, but this new board looks good (and has lots of neat "toys"). ^_^

And, this change is way better than the last time! Last time all the info was just gone one day....and a clean, new, empty board was in it's place! :o

At least this time we have the old info for a month!

So start copying your favorite recipies and lists from the old board!

Welda, what kind of recipes do you use for sweets? I would love to be able to eat dessert that doesn't have dairy or chocolate in it. I have made a couple of cakes using mixes, but most of the cookbooks I have all use things which I still cannot tolerate. I cannot have chocolate or peanut butter or dairy. I do use some butter and it seems to be ok, but if a recipe calls for a lot of butter, I use Crisco instead. I have been of dessert for so long I don't know if my body would know what to do with it.

I dig this new board! I was a little bummed at the loss of the old info, but I also realized how much things have changed in the last few years and that a large majority of that info needed updating anyway. There are foods and products on the market now that we had previously discussed as being safe or unsafe that have now changed and it will be really good for all of us to revisit some of that here. It will also really help all the newbies to see the info fresh and current.

I hope that everyone out there in the gluten-free world will join me in saying THANKS to Scott and the rest of the celiac.com crew!

I understand where you are coming from, but I think you may be painting things a little too black! I was floored by the new board, and I still don't know how to use a lot of the new features, but I have given myself permission to learn slowly (which is actually a major accomplishment for me--I am such a perfectionist!). Now, I can't even remember the old board! You don't have to agree with me, of course, but I think changing over to this new board will prove to have been a good choice in the long run.

Wow, travelthomas, I had no idea that anyone would find this board that difficult, I happen to really like it.

I realize that everyone has there own preferences and that for some change can be difficult, but I would hope that a chance for new and updated information would exite you. This board gives us a chance to really talk and help and ask questions that may have already been asked before, but I think the chance to revist old information is good, because it helps us remember. I found that on the old board, a lot of questions were being answered with "look in the back loggded info and you'll find it" but that just tells me that we aren't remembering, or that we don't want to take the time to help. This new board will help us to do that.

You know what else... I think the smiley faces are cool! :D

After all, you seem to have managed to post, and you will likely get this reply. How difficult is it then? You can still search all posts, find new posts, and now you have many more options that aren't really that difficult to figure out like sending other members an e-mail directly, and even hooking up with them in a live chat (if both parties share their chat contact info in their profiles).

It sounds like you just need to spend a few minutes going through our excellent help file at:

If you do this I'm sure that you will figure out the board's new features, and grow to LOVE them (although you really don't seem to be having as much trouble as your post made it sound like you were having). This board is light years beyond the old one, and like most new things there is a bit of a learning curve that comes with all that it offers. The beauty of it is that you can use just the basic features and it will behave like the old board, or you can take advantage of its many new features and really interact and feel like you are part of a close online gluten-free community, which is my goal here.

    • Advil (ibuprofen) is gluten-free, but can be a stomach irritant, especially if taken on an empty stomach. That said, I will also place my bet on the garlic and onions. As Raven said, eating more than once a day may also help. An empty stomach is likely to be an irritable stomach.

    • Thanks for posting.  I know it is difficult to talk about these sorts of things even on a webforum.  It is good thing for people to be aware though about celiac disease and that it can cause mental problems.  Gluten can cause brain damage and it can cause anxiety. If the brain does heal it may take a long time. I know that gluten can cause anxiety and obsessive thoughts.  My experience has been similar to your experience. When I first quit eating gluten I had a similar constant loop and strong negative feelings. There are lots of people on this forum who get anxiety when they eat gluten. Some people also experience gluten withdrawl where they experience anxiety after giving up gluten. It can take a long time for the body to heal and for obsessive thoughts to go away.
       It is normal for people to socialize with each other and to be comfortable about it. You said you have problems still socializing and being around people. It might be a depressing thought but it sounds to me like you still have problems with anxiety.  I would recommend considering what options you have available to treat the anxiety. When I quit eating Gluten I still had some symptoms, even though I felt much better. I have been slowly recovering over a period of about three years. I had obsessive thoughts even after I quit eating gluten.  Now I very rarely if at all think about those things. My experience is that my mind would latch on to certain things that caused me anxiety and focus on those things. Sometimes my focus would shift and I would latch onto other things. My ability to socialize has also improved greatly with time. I have made some dietary changes which I believe have helped greatly. It sounds to me like you have obsessive thoughts about things and maybe some brain damage. My experience has been that my obsessive thoughts about different things went away with time. I feel my obsessive thoughts were caused by gluten and not by what people did around me or any events. As my brain healed I became more self aware and things became less stressful.  I can't give medical advice on this forum but I can talk about my current diet and my experience with celiac disease. My experience with gluten is different from a lot of other people so it is a good idea to ask other people and to talk to a doctor.  I avoid oats and avoid almost all processed foods. I buy certified gluten free food. I eat healthy and I exercise every day. I take st John's Wort as I have read studies that say it may be as effective as some other anti-depressants for treating certain types of anxiety. It is available over the counter. I started with a small dosage and then stepped it up over time. Some people do not process the synthetic form of vitamin b (from normal pills)  very well, and do better on an activated form of vitamin b. I take:
      1 activated vitamin b12 daily
      1 activated vitamin b6 every once in a while. 1 regular vitamin b multivitamin
      1 magnesium pill every day.
      St Johns Wort daily.
      1 zinc vitamin daily
      I drink lots of Chamomile tea and decaf coffee. I avoid most caffeine. 
      I think each of these helps lower my anxiety level.  I eat fruit with every meal. Canned fruit from walmart is cheap and good for you. I eat salad and and vegetables and avoid dairy.  I eat frozen fish often as it has healthy proteins. Eating healthy is very important. I eat potatoes and rice. http://www.livestrong.com/article/454179-what-is-methyl-b12/ I avoid eating soy sauce, soy, cheese, aged meats and fermented foods (I do drink certain types of alcohol in moderate amounts.) These foods contain lots of Tyramine. I might (or might not) have "monoaine oxidase deficiency" and if so high Tyramine foods should be avoided.  I thought I might have problems with elevated ammonia in my blood, but I am not convinced of that anymore. I limited my consumption of meat for a while as well as dairy but I am not sure if i helped.  I have heard that Celiac disease can effect other organs besides the brain and those organs can have an effect on the brain.  My current diet is working so I am going to stick with it for now. I try not to worry about things that are outside of my control. Be patient as it took me a long time to recover.  Let me know if you have any questions.     • My endoscopy showed i had decreased folds in my duodenum. The biopsy came back and showed that my villi were fine... i have been on a gluten free diet for 6 years because i was just told i was intolerant but never had any testing before. when i eat gluten i get sick for 2 weeks. i came down with issues of other foods in march so they were trying to figure out why and wanted to know if i had celiac are not because that would explain why dairy and fructose are a problem.. both intolerant test for both were negative but the fructose test made me extremely sick but it was negative...      Im trying to figure out why i have decreased  folds in the first place. my Gi doctor is stumped on that to why the endoscopy would show damage but the under the microscope are fine. She is going to call the dr who did my scope and then is supposed to get back to  me..    would being gluten free for 6 year make it so there was damage and then my vili are now fine but still cant be seen in the endoscope?
