I've just been reading articles that says celiacs struggle to absorb fats incuding healthy fats. Do you guys take extra omega supplements? I'm just so nervous I'll get fat as I gain weight supper fast.

I definitely supplement with omega 3's, and for a long time I took digestive enzymes to help with fat digestion (pancreatic enzymes), since the pancreas is often not operating at maximum capacity.

I'd love a link to that article. Is it the damaged vili that make it hard to absorb the fats? I eat almost exclusively healthy fats with the exception of whatever is attached to my meats. Since going gluten-free, and getting rid of processed foods and dairy, I'm pretty liberal with my olive, grapeseed, almond and hazelnut oils. Those nut oils add a bit of depth to the gluten-free mixes.

It's not fats that cause weight gain. It's the combination of refined carbs or excess carbs, the insulin that the body releases to manage the blood sugar levels caused by those carbs and then excess calories. Insulin is the fat building hormone. Stick with as much unprocessed food as you can. Keep control of the carbs.

I have a probablem with eating fats. I have to be really careful or be within a bathroom really really fast. I can't eat beef or milk fat like in cheese either. So I add fat throughout the day and not at one time.

Yeah, I've always needed extra fat to get enough absorbed.

Depending upon how long you've been gluten-free, you may find that the weight doesn't pile on like it did while eating gluten. Also, maintaining proper weight may be easier as long as your other nutritional needs are being met.

I eat a lot more nuts than I used to - in my breakfast and sometimes in my gluten-free baking. I love walnuts. I also find myself cooking a bit with butter (small amount in stirfries...adds to the taste) and using regular salad dressings (as opposed to lite ones). Guess it's becoming all about the flavour. I was taking a flaxseed oil supplement but when I ran out I just didn't buy any and don't notice a difference. I do keep ground flaxseed in the freezer & add it to baking.

Celiacs has spurred me to try & eat more nutritiously - maybe we don't absorb things as well, all the more reasons to make sure lots of nutrients are consumed !

So, I contacted Scott Adams, the author of that article and also the creator/admin of this website, and pointed out to him the need to clarify the information in the paragraph in question. He has now updated the paragraph and it is clear that the DGP-IGA does serve the purpose of circumventing the false negatives that IGA deficiencies can generate in the tTG-IGA antibody test.

Has anyone experimenced enlarged lymph nodes with celiac? Both in the neck and groin area. Imaging of both areas have said that lymph nodes are reactive in nature. However, they have been present for months and just wondering how long this may take to go down. Been gluten-free for about two months. Blood counts are normal.

Hmm interesting I just assumed that any “IGA” tests including the DPG iga would be negative in a person who is IGA deficient but maybe that is not the case for the DPG test.

If you were just diagnosed I can say that if you go 100% gluten-free should should see dramatic improvement of your symptoms over the next few months, but the hard part is to stay gluten-free. This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):
