Query From A Newbie On Milk Stabilisers

Hi guys,

I was officially diagnosed 3 months ago (although apparently i have been suffering for the past 7 years - when they diagnosed me with IBS) so i am going to be asking a lot of questions. My first one....

....are milk stabilisers ok? I am totally addicted to bottled milkshakes - low fat - and need to know whether it's something i need to give up. The ingredients are low fat milk, sucrose, stabilisers, flavourants and colourants. Are any of these on the "No-No" list (as my fiance calls it)?

A

Welcome!

I don't see anything that raises a flag, but label regulations vary by jurisdiction. I am familiar with the rules in Canada and the USA, but the names and spellings of those ingredients suggest that you are somewhere else.

Hi Peter,

I am from South Africa, but unfortunately I haven't been able to find any local forums :( My doctor has been as helpful as he can be and I totally appreciate all his help, but this is his first case - otherwise I probably wouldn't have been diagnosed with IBS instead of Celiacs :D

Thanks for the reply

Enlarged lymph nodes in neck and groin with celiac are not uncommon. They can take time to reduce even after going gluten-free. Monitoring is key.

Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.

"her stool study showed she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that." The wording of this part of the sentence does not make any sense at all. I don't mean to insult you, but is English your first language? This part of the sentence sounds like it was generated by translation software.

What kind of stool test was done? Can you be more specific?
