Question About Celiac Diagnosis

I realise this is a fairly specific and medical question however, having concluded in all likelihood I have celiac (based on a history of associated symptoms which have gotten worse after eating more and more wheaty bread in my diet) I have decided to go gluten free for a while, just in case.

My question is: if I have been on a gluten free diet for a week/two weeks before I get to see a doctor, will a test for celiac still flag it up? Or do I have to be bonefide sick for it to be detected?

Unfortunately, you need to keep ingesting gluten to ensure an accurate test.

Wait until you are done with all the testing you choose to do before you go gluten free. Do keep in mind also that even on a full gluten diet you can still have a false negative with testing.

      Trying to read my lab results

      Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep...

      Constant low back, abdominal and pelvic pain!

      I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.

      Perhaps I should also have said that in addition to showing a very high response to gluten, her stool study showed that she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that.
