Supplements To Aid Digestive Healing

Darwin

I figured out in October of 2010 that I have gluten sensitivity (did not pursue diagnosis, NP felt it was not necessary). I felt dynamite very quickly and for a few months. I have accidentally "challenged" that discovery a few times in the beginning and have not been happy with the results. Anyway, I have had a few cross-contamination issues due to eating out over the last couple months and, in turn have started to feel a little crappy lately and REALLY bloated. I am wondering if anyone has had any luck with digestive enzymes, vitamin supplements, or probiotics to aid in digestive healing and a decrease in bloating and gas. Do you have any other suggestions? I am considering an elimination diet to see if I have any other food sensitivites, but thought I would try some supplementation first.

Ditto on the Digest Gold by Enzymedica.

This helped to stop multiple digestive/bowel issues for me (I will spare you the graphic details  )

I also vary the probiotics, as suggested by an MD and an ND. Most recent ones are by Custom Probiotics. I have also used Genestra brand powder sachets.

Hope this helps!

Hi i take prescription enzymes....96,000 units a day. its called Creon and expensive and hard to find at pharmacies. I recently bought some ENZYMEDICA gluten ease with DDP-IV ACTIVITY AND BOUGHT LYPO GOLD ENZYMES. wondering if anyone knows if i can take these two different products on top of the prescription strength. I read that the GLUTEN EASE eliminates the trigger in gluten and you can eat gluten products and the supplement will take care of any reactions. anyone take CREON and these two over the counter products?? any suggestions please? hoping that the enzymes will allow me to GAIN at least 50 pounds....for i am nothing more than a bag of bones. some people gain weight and some lose weight and muscle. i lost weight and muscle and very scared. thank you very much.

Thank you so much, everyone. I will definitely try some supplementation and see what happens. I am one of the people who gained some weight, so the bloating and distention does not help.

I was diagnosed in July 2009 and felt better almost immediately by going 'gluten-free'. But a few months later I started feeling bad again. I finally found a new doctor that specializes in Celiac Disease and he warned me about the bad effects of corn and rice. I stopped eating them (including corn pasta, corn syrup, etc.) and feel so much better! I was one of the people that gained weight after going gluten-free even though I ate very little. It's been 3 months now without corn and rice and I have lost 15 pounds without even trying - and no more bloating.

good for you! this is cool to know.

i only realized i had a gluten sensitivity in november 2010.. although symptoms were greatly reduced in december, in january some symptoms were back. i was struggling with cross contamination at first, but then realized that corn & rice seem to be causing me some problems. my mom (who is in similar stages of self-diagnosis) told me they are difficult on the poor, damaged digestive system.

i've been avoiding beans for this reason, too.

i want to try this digestive enzyme.

i take a probiotic daily, do y'all have a recommended amount to take? i've read that you can build up slowly to taking 25 gel caps in one day??? that sounds extreme to me, but i don't know much about this....

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I started probiotics and digestive enzymes on Thursday and my distention and bloating has gone down significantly along with the gas. I am not feeling like my organs are being squished my my abdomen any more!! This very exciting. I was starting to think that I was going to have to eliminate more foods, though I might have to later, but for now, I am feeling a lot better and have gained some energy again!

Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.

"her stool study showed she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that." The wording of this part of the sentence does not make any sense at all. I don't mean to insult you, but is English your first language? This part of the sentence sounds like it was generated by translation software.

What kind of stool test was done? Can you be more specific?
    • mishyj
Perhaps I should also have said that in addition to showing a very high response to gluten, her stool study showed that she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that.
