Going To See A Natropath Next Tuesday

Well, I have been gluten free since January 2nd and the difference was AMAZING. I no longer feel like I am dying (no joke.) But...the last few weeks I have begun to feel like I did when I first started to get sick almost four years ago - tired, achy, bloated. I am pretty sure I am not consuming gluten so I suspect there are other food intollerances that are just now rearing their ugly heads.

So, I made an appointment with a Natropath that has experience with food allergies. I REFUSE to go back to any of my old doctors because they chalked me up to being a hypochondriac (despite vitimin deficiencies, postivie ANA, positive Sjogren's, etc. etc. etc.) I am really hoping she can help me.

My main problem is, my husband rolled his eyes when I told him. He was not a jerk when I was undiagnosed but I know he was thinking along the same lines as the doctors. Now he thinks I am just being whiny again and it makes me sad :(

My husband has been wonderful, but the people at work, not so much. I think they think it is all in my head and that food intolerances aren't serious. There's a certain tone of voice when they say stuff like "Oh, you can't eat that, can you?" and probably some eye-rolling when I can't see them. :( Sorry your husband is being a jerk. Makes this all the more difficult for you. Maybe the new doc will have some things he can read or maybe she can talk to him. Good luck.

People's responses can be annoying. Especially when it comes from family members. It sounds to me like you're going with or without your husband's approval/support. That's what I'd do. You're the one who has to suffer the consequences from your food consumption. I'd love it if you'd post what you learned after your appt.

Some of us become more sensitive to cross contamination after we have been gluten free for a while. Are you and your DH being careful to prevent CC?

Yeah, I think I am being careful enough. I even changed the birds to gluten free cereal (they like round shped ceral as a treat.) Yeah, my son thinks I am nuts to change the birds to gluten free but they get lots of kisses from mama :)

I am starting to wonder though - I wonder if my Vitamin D levels could be low again. I started off at 17 and despite taking 1,000 mg a day they did not improve much. I was then given 50,000 units to take once a week for eight weeks in addition to the 1,000 daily. That brought me up to 46 I think. That was one month before I figured out I had Celiac (Jan of this year.) I wonder if my level are down because I am not healed yet.

It would be a good idea to get your D levels checked. You mention giving your birds gluten-free cereal as a treat, what are you feeding them as food? Finding gluten-free bird seed can be difficult and many birds do get seed and the dust all over the place. I kept getting CC'd by my bird and finally found him a new and loving home.

My birds mostly eat safflower seeds and other seeds but maybe those fruity pebbles looking things have gluten in them. Oh boy, that would be bad because I could not give them up. My family jokes that I love my birds more than I love them...ha ha.

Thank you so much, everyone. For the moment my doctor just has me taking iron but hopefully we can reconnect soon. I'm going to look into genetic testing, too. Great advice all around and I appreciate it--and you can bet I'm going off the PPIs!

I walk fast for fitness, 4 to 6 km per day. I am also 74 years old. Apart from the Celiac challenge, my lifestyle is healthy. I had a sciatiac nerve pinching under my one foot, with inflamation in my whole shin. It was almost cured, when the other shin started paining and burning. I do stretches, use a natural cooling gel and rest my feet. Can Celiac cause muscle pains/inflamation, or is it just over-excercising?

I recently started shopping at a nearby Trader Joe's store. I was surprised at the number and variety of (healthy) gluten-free options sold there. I must admit their low prices are also quite tempting. However, I am curious as to the labeling on all their packages. While none of their products are certified as gluten-free, many are identified as 'GLUTEN FREE' on the packaging. Are these items safe for celiacs? Has anyone tried Trader Joe's products and have there been any adverse reactions?

HI, my doctor suggested one week of consuming gluten before blood tests.  I have been gluten free for 3 years.  Has anyone been through this and will I get exact results after one week of consuming gluten?  I don't even know if I can do this, if I get sick I am not sure if I can continue, any suggestions??  Thanks in advance.

I did reach out to them on April 4th and left a message. I will try calling again. Thank you!
