Sleep Apnea After Being Gluttened

Ok, so I was never diagnosed with sleep apnea but I often had problems gasping for air in the night. And my brother has major sleep apnea. I noticed after going gluten free however, this completely stopped happening. Yesterday I ate sauce that I thought was gluten free but turns out had wheat in it. When I tried to fall asleep last night, every time I would just start to drift I would jerk up gasping for air. I have noticed this only happens the night of being gluttened. It boggles my mind...how one causes the other!?

Oh, I am new to this forum, and trying gluten free for the past weeks, but please explain more. when I figured I had this I tried to stop taking in gluten. was good for a few days and added mustard I thought was gluten free to add some taste to my chicken. when I was done eating it felt like my heart was racing, it was late, went to bed, and every second I though I was about to fall asleep BOOM, weird twitch that woke me before I could sleep even for a second, and heart stared racing. I did not sleep and it was last night, Im hoping this does not last more than a day, almsot scared to eat.

Welcome to the forum Kre8sioN! It is definitly scary when you stop breathing-ecspecially with your heart racing! When you said weird twitch are you referring to not being able to breath or something else?

I haven't really exeprienced a racing heart before but I have heard other people who experience that on this forum. After I went gluten free for about 3 months I accidentally got glutened through communion bread at church. That night, every time I tried to fall asleep-I woke up gasping for air. I didn't pick up on the trend until being gluttened another two times. Each time I kept waking up gasping for air the very same night I was glutened. Then a light bulb went on and I did some researrch and found it could very well be connected.I know gluten is not always the cause of sleep apnea but I believe it is in my case since I don't have a problem when I am gluten free. :)

Welcome to he forum community, @DjinnDjab! You wrote: "i just found out i may have celiac. so needless to say i no longer have friends or relationships." Are you saying that the need to eat gluten free has resulted in losing all your friends and your entire social life?

i am a 37 yo male and this describes me perfectly. on a scale of 1-10, i am at 8. 9. 10, 11 for 8-12 hours a day, 6-7 days a week. this has been going on for about 5 years and i just found out i may have celiac. so needless to say i no longer have friends or relationships so i spend a lot of time with myself. and uhhh what really sucks is uhh, sorry to say, "enjoying myself" is a trigger for this pain. i can be fine all day until i take 5 mins to "myself" and then its all downhill from there. this has robbed me of every.single.thing in my once colorful life.

Yes, wheat is common in most soy sauces now because it speeds up the fermenting process.

For 16 years I have relied on the website glutenfreedrugs.com to determine if a pharmaceutical is gluten-free. The website has been down for at least a week. Does anyone have any information about this outage, the status of the website founder and maintainer pharmacist Steven A. Plogsted or a phone number? I did not get a response for my email to glutenfreedrugs@gmail.com in October of 2022. Steven did respond to my emails in 2012. Thanks.
