Creams, Makeup Etc.

I was just informed that shampoo/conditioner/soap/makeup etc. can be a problem because of the gluten, so I hope someone here might be able to help me - at least until I reach the companies by phone. - I now know what my Friday and Sunday will look like - on the phone the whole day!!!!

Anyway, the companies I need information about are: Avene - their sunblock cream, Extremely gentle cleanser, Skin recovery cream and hand cream. Clinique - moisture sheer lipstick, glosswear for lips. Cetaphil. Oral Defense toothpaste - cool mint. LIP BALM - Lip Protection, cherry flavor with moisturizing vitamin E. (it also says on it super G - is that the company name?)

One last question - can Vitamin E be a problem?

I really don't know where to start. I really never thought that these items could be a problem. I guess, when you think about it, it makes sense, so why don't doctors say anything?!?!?!?

Thanks in advance!!!!

Chana

Yes, those products can be a problem and I have personally reacted to non gluten-free suncreen. I am not sure about the products that you mentioned but I will give you info on some gluten free equivalents:

Suncreen - Banana Boat (I also think that Coppertone is gluten-free, anyone have a conformation on that?)

Toothpaste - Colgate or Crest

Lipstick - Avon and L'Oreal (in Canada anyway)

Soap - dove will clearly indicate gluten

Shampoo/Conditioner - Dove (will clearly indicate gluten), Garnier Fructis (I read on this site that it is gluten-free).

I'm sure the others can give more info than that. Hope this helps.

so why don't doctors say anything?!?!?!?
I'm not sure... I've wondered that myself, I think they are too busy to say anything and leave it up to the dietician or nutritionist.

Vitamin E can be a problem. I has lip balm I was using months ago and I had a bad reaction and I could not figure it out. Turns out the Vitamin E was derived from wheat  Learned my lesson there

Some doctors are numbskulls and just don't know everything. To tell you the truth you keep learning things along the way though. You just have to check everything.

So, I contacted Scott Adams, the author of that article and also the creator/admin of this website, and pointed out to him the need to clarify the information in the paragraph in question. He has now updated the paragraph and it is clear that the DGP-IGA does serve the purpose of circumventing the false negatives that IGA deficiencies can generate in the tTG-IGA antibody test.

Has anyone experimenced enlarged lymph nodes with celiac? Both in the neck and groin area. Imaging of both areas have said that lymph nodes are reactive in nature. However, they have been present for months and just wondering how long this may take to go down. Been gluten-free for about two months. Blood counts are normal.

Hmm interesting I just assumed that any “IGA” tests including the DPG iga would be negative in a person who is IGA deficient but maybe that is not the case for the DPG test.

If you were just diagnosed I can say that if you go 100% gluten-free should should see dramatic improvement of your symptoms over the next few months, but the hard part is to stay gluten-free. This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):
