1 Yr Celiac Diagnosis Anniversary

Hello everyone,

I just joined this forum and am so happy to have found people who know what I'm going through! It'll be my one-year celiac diagnosis anniversary at the end of June and I'm feeling discouraged. I had such high hope for feeling great after cutting out gluten, but it really hasn't happened. At least not consistently.

I had the (Company Name Removed - They Spammed This Forum and are Banned) food and chemical sensitivity test and BioTek's IgE, IgA, and IgG tests. Results from the 2 tests conflicted a lot, so I'm not sure if they actually helped that much. (BioTek seemed to be more reliable.) The rotation diet from (Company Name Removed - They Spammed This Forum and are Banned) was helpful in introducing me to new foods, but I now suspect foods that showed no reaction give me problems.

Through trial and error, I'm now avoiding (besides gluten) dairy, eggs, oats, most nuts, beef, celery, refined sugar, and now I suspect corn is giving me trouble. It seems like a really random list to me. Since I'm still not the me I want to be, I'm afraid there may be more...

The past few days I've felt ok, but this morning I feel terrible. My symptoms are always upset belly, nausea (sometimes vomiting), really potent gas, malaise, exhaustion, and depression. There are a few things it may be from and I feel discouraged investigating it. Discoveries like soy lecithin, xanthan gum (corn?), and "natural" flavors in my organic rice milk make me so angry. Why is there corn and soy in my RICE milk?! Sometimes it feels like me against the world.

Anyway, I wanted to introduce myself and share where I am right now because I have a feeling I'll be here a lot.

I had the same problem as you, but I found relief after going on the Specific Carb Diet. I know that a lot of people have luck on various elimination diets. You might try one of those and start with a few foods you can eat and work upwards instead of eliminating foods you think you can't eat until you feel better.

Heather, I can relate. I kept looking forward to all this good health and energy that I was supposed to get after going gluten-free, and a year in, it didn't happen. So then I pursued things more with my gastroenterologist. Gall bladder? Normal. Gastric emptying scan? Slow. So, I have (a thankfully mild case of) gastroparesis. That still didn't fix it, so about 4 months after that, I got diagnosed with food allergies to the stuff in my signature. Also, eggplant does not agree with me. Just found that out yesterday.

It's definitely frustrating, but when I don't eat gluten or my allergies, and pay attention to the gastroparesis, I do pretty well. Most days.

Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.

"her stool study showed she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that." The wording of this part of the sentence does not make any sense at all. I don't mean to insult you, but is English your first language? This part of the sentence sounds like it was generated by translation software.

What kind of stool test was done? Can you be more specific?

Perhaps I should also have said that in addition to showing a very high response to gluten, her stool study showed that she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that.
