Anyone else live in Tuscaloosa/Northport, Alabama area and know of a support group?????
I have a couple of friends who are gluten sensitive like me and we're interested in finding others.

I have learned in the few weeks that I've been gluten-free that there are A LOT of people out there like us. And a few friends do it for their kids. It's very interesting how prevalent gluten-free is but I never paid attention before.

So, let me know.

39 years old (how in the world did that happen??!!)
Diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis @ age of 15
& Osteoarthritis in late 20s
10 years remission which ended Feb. 2011
Diagnosed with mastocytic colitis May 2011
New to gluten free and fingers crossed it will explain the roving rheumatic symptoms
Interesting tidbit--my rheumy thinks I may have been misdiagnosed with RA all of those years ago.
Not sure how to feel about that
Realize that although I feel crappy most days it could be a LOT worse.

Hi Celestial, I live in the Bibb Co area so not too far away. I'm not gluten free, it's my daughter with Celiac. However, our whole family is gluten free (with occasional individual cheats) for meals, holidays, snacks, etc. If you start a support group around there, I'd love to come.

Hi! Sorry, I've not been on the forum in a while and just saw your post. I'll let you know if anything comes of it!

Hello -
I am the leader of the Birmingham Celiac Disease Support Group -- although we cover most of the State, not just B'ham. I know that there are a lot of people in the Tuscaloosa are that are celiac or gluten free.
I would love to go to Tuscaloosa and have a support group meeting, and to have you all join us for events here in Birmingham, when you can. Last year, we had a gluten free food expo, a gluten free dinner gala, and a Making Tracks for Celiacs 5K run -- we are currently planning for the 2013 event, and would love to have you here!

You can reach me at birminghamceliac@hotmail.com . Let's plan a meeting!
