I Can Eat Lactose Now!

Hi,

I had asked a while back how long it takes for lactose intolerance to go away on a gluten-free diet. I got 'depends' as an answer. That didn't help! I have more information. I suspected it had gone away in a few weeks but was chicken to try. Then I read somewhere, a book I think, that a doctor recommends his patients to do a lactose challenge at one year gluten-free.

Well I am 4 months gluten-free and ate a gallon of ice cream in two weeks, mostly 3 ice cream cones a day, and my final test, the first dairy food which ever bothered me.. I ate yogurt yesterday with no ill effect :D:rolleyes::unsure::):):):);) . Yoplait yogurt and it said gluten free right on the container so I wrote them:

their reply first, followed with the email I sent:

To: xxx@yahoo.com Dear Ms. Nxxx:

Thank you for contacting General Mills regarding gluten free products. We appreciate the time you have taken to share your positive feedback with us. We will be very happy to pass on your comments to the product team.

We have recently launched a website: www.glutenfreely.com. :D This site contains a list of all General Mills products that are currently labeled gluten free, as well as gluten free recipes and an online store offering a variety of gluten free products.

We appreciate your loyalty and hope you continue to enjoy our products.

Sincerely,

Amanda Peach

>Originated by Consumer It was so nice when I was shopping today to not have to read all your ingredients. It clearly states 'gluten free' so I bought it. I have not eaten yogurt for about 30 years because of lactose but on the gluten free diet I am no longer lactose intolerant and my first though was YOGURT. thank you

Congrats! Feels nice, doesn't it? I did the same experiment, did find I had a slight intolerance and chose to do pills to help. I am slowly putting dairy in my diet now and actually feel like my diet is more balanced. With the pills I am having no reaction. It's really nice to have more options as far as eating!

Congrats on being able to add dairy back in! A whole lot of "new" foods have just been added to your diet. :D

Have some ice cream for me? ;)

Welcome to he forum community, @DjinnDjab! You wrote: "i just found out i may have celiac. so needless to say i no longer have friends or relationships." Are you saying that the need to eat gluten free has resulted in losing all your friends and your entire social life?

i am a 37 yo male and this describes me perfectly. on a scale of 1-10, i am at 8. 9. 10, 11 for 8-12 hours a day, 6-7 days a week. this has been going on for about 5 years and i just found out i may have celiac. so needless to say i no longer have friends or relationships so i spend a lot of time with myself. and uhhh what really sucks is uhh, sorry to say, "enjoying myself" is a trigger for this pain. i can be fine all day until i take 5 mins to "myself" and then its all downhill from there. this has robbed me of every.single.thing in my once colorful life.

Yes, wheat is common in most soy sauces now because it speeds up the fermenting process.

For 16 years I have relied on the website glutenfreedrugs.com to determine if a pharmaceutical is gluten-free. The website has been down for at least a week. Does anyone have any information about this outage, the status of the website founder and maintainer pharmacist Steven A. Plogsted or a phone number? I did not get a response for my email to glutenfreedrugs@gmail.com in October of 2022. Steven did respond to my emails in 2012. Thanks.
