Trip To The U.s. - Hints For Gluten Free Restaurants And Supermarktet, Etc.

Hi,

I got my final diagnosis of celiac disease 6 weeks ago

I live in Germany but I had already booked my trip to the States.

I am looking forward to it very much but I am a little unsure how I will get along with my new gluten free diet

I won't live much in hotels. I will mostly stay with friends but they don't know celiac disease.

I will stay in Montana (Dillon, Bozeman), Indiana (Bloomington, Indianapolis), Cincinatti and Chicago :D:lol:

Has anyone hints for me where to get gluten free stuff? Maybe you know of restaurant chains, restaurants or shops of any kinds in these places that are celiac friendly?

Thank you in advance :)

Cheers,

Tinka

I find it's relatively easy to eat gluten-free in most any city. Grocery stores in urban areas almost always have gluten-free sections and several restaurant chains (Chili's, Outback, Ruby Tuesdays, ect...) have gluten-free menus. Here are some links that will hopefully be helpful in finding restaurants.

Type the cities you are visiting into glutenfreeregistry.com and you will find some lists of gluten-free restaurants/stores as well as reviews.

Of the places you listed I have only visited Bloomington, IN. I remember they have a large farmers market where you can get tons of fresh produce. There is also an organics store there called Bloomingfoods Market and Deli that has many gluten-free options (from gluten-free bread to gluten-free flours), however the store is a Co-op and you have to be a member to shop there. Perhaps your friends will have a membership and can buy some things for you. There is a Whole Foods store in Indianapolis where you should be able to buy some gluten-free things as well.

Montana wow XD (i used to live there and been through those citys before i was DX'd)

Well, your best bet would be to raid a food store as soon as you get there and stock up on snacks.

I do know that Outback steakhouse has a gluten free menu.
