My daughter has been diagnosed with celiac (and ibd). I (her mom) had the bloodwork done and it came back negative. Unfortunately it looks like I have DH despite the blood tests. My question is can celiac run in families in different forms? Like me and my daughter or perhaps sisters where one has celiac and the other celiac in the form of DH?

Sure. Why not? Supposedly only 25% of Celiacs have DH.

They think there may be specific DH genes but so far there's no solid research. Can't remember where I read that-I've read a zillion things it seems.

Yes celiac is strongly genetic. DH is celiac but not everyone that has DH will have the gut symptoms. I had DH for years before any gut issues developed. Other celiacs will never develop DH. There is still an awful lot to be learned about the associated genetics of celiac so I don't know if there really is any specfic gene that contributes to the development of it.

      Enlarged lymph nodes in neck and groin with celiac are not uncommon. They can take time to reduce even after going gluten-free. Monitoring is key.

      Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

      I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.
