Negative Iga Antibodies; Positive Iga - What Does This Mean?

Hi!

I recently had the celiac panel blood test done after numerous other tests came back negative.

I keep getting mixed messages from doctors and have been gluten free for about 6 weeks.

It's still up and down and I'm wondering if I am, in fact celiac.

Any help interpreting these results would be greatly appreciated!

CRP My Result: <0.2 Reference Range: <8.0 mg/L

ANTINUCLEAR AB. (ANA) My Result: NEGATIVE Reference Range: NEGATIVE

GLIADIN IgA ANTIBODIES My Result: 2.3 Reference Range: <12 U/mL

GLIADIN IgG ANTIBODIES My Result: 34.7*** Reference Range: <12 U/mL

TRANSGLUTAMINASE IgA AB My Result: 3.2 Reference Range: <10 U/mL

EDIT: sorry about the topic title it's supposed to read "Negative IgA Antibodies; Positive IgG **

Did your doctor run total IgA? if you're IgA deficient, which is common in celiacs, the IgA tests don't mean anything. Total IgA can be run gluten-free if you need to go back and have it done. Unfortunately, you would also need TTG IgG, which cannot be run gluten-free.

You also need to know whether the gliadin is the old anti-gliadin test or the newer deamidated gliadin. Deamidated gliadin IgG would definitely be celiac. The old anti-gliadin test can be positive in gluten intolerance too, especially IgG if you have normal levels of total IgA.

Thank you for your response and insight. My doctors are not very familiar with Celiac and they did not ask for my total IgA to be tested. They have also not been able to refer me to a true GI specialist.

yes, get the total IgA done, and shame on the doctors or lab for not doing that one.

And, yes, ask if this was the new deamidated gliadin test. Several places just list them as gliadin Ab nowadays so one needs to ask.

In case of low or lowish total IgA, they always run the IgG versions of tests instead.

In any case, the high test is suspicious.

Yes, wheat is common in most soy sauces now because it speeds up the fermenting process.

For 16 years I have relied on the website glutenfreedrugs.com to determine if a pharmaceutical is gluten-free. The website has been down for at least a week. Does anyone have any information about this outage, the status of the website founder and maintainer pharmacist Steven A. Plogsted or a phone number? I did not get a response for my email to glutenfreedrugs@gmail.com in October of 2022. Steven did respond to my emails in 2012. Thanks.

Sounds like you are in the UK. With blood numbers that high, I thought docs in UK would give an official diagnosis without the biopsy. You should ask about that, so you can get support faster.  I'd try to find and print out anything that supports that in your country, get another appointment and take all of it with you. Even in the US now, some docs are doing this, my 19 year old step granddaughter got an official diagnosis here in US with just blood results a few months ago.

Is soy sauce in Korea also made from wheat like it usually is in US? I'd be concerned that even if asking about gluten, they would not be aware of or think of some like that.
