Nearly-Normal Villi

I've been gluten free for almost two years. Early this year, I had a follow-up endoscopy which showed my villi had almost returned to normal.

However, although some symptoms have improved, I still have a restrictive diet as I have a lot of bloating and food intolerances. If my gut is recovering well, why do I still have problems? Is my gut health still generally poor?

If you're having to avoid soy and corn, it is difficult.

We don't really get to pick and choose which sorts of additional things are wrong with us, it's sort of random. I'm much, much better than I was 10 years ago, but still won't ever be "normal," although I can "pass" on most days.

If you are having villi problems, you are probably reacting to some gluten contamination from somewhere.

Thanks for your replies. I'm at peace with never eating gluten again but with so many other foods that bother me, I don't feel fully recovered. I am improved since a year ago though, so perhaps, like Takala, there will be a point where can feel at least much better :)

However, I'm not having villi problems - but I can't eat fructose, onions, legumes, corn, soy and lots of other things despite the almost-clear endoscopy.

Sorry, I interpreted "almost returned to normal" to mean that they aren't normal yet, so that you are still having villi problems. Some of us react to lower amounts of cc than others. That is what I have been concentrating on with good results.

They were 'nearly normal' early in the year so I'm guessing they've continued to improve. I'm wondering if it's possible to become more sensitive to gluten after being gluten-free for a while though?
