Doctor In Edmonton?

I am new to this forum but I really do need help! I am looking to find a family doctor in Edmonton, AB. I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease 2.5 years ago and still struggle with it. My goal is to find a long-term family doctor that can give any advice for my health with celiacs, as well as being a general doctor for my other health needs. In the next few years, my husband and I will most likely want to start a family and I will need all the tips and advice for my diet and pregnancy.

Does anyone know or can recommend a doctor within Edmonton (or Sherwood Park, Fort Saskatchewan) for me?

I just moved to Vancouver from Edmonton, and as far as I know, I couldn't find ANY doctor in Edmonton who even knew what Celiac Disease is, never mind one I would get advice from...sorry that all I have is bad news but if you contact the Edmonton Celiac Association chapter, someone there might have a list of doctors :)

Thanks for the reply. I had emailed the Celiac Association but they didn't have any sort of list which was disappointing! Thanks anyway!

If you plug in Edmonton and the field of speciality in the search function, you can pull up the different doctors and how people have found them to be and their experiences of them.

By the way? I miss Edmonton! I moved to Winnipeg seven years ago and have regretted it ever since.

Dr. Connie Switzer is a leading specialist in Canada and she practices in Edmonton. However, she is not a GP but a gatsro specialist so it may take months to get in to see her. I attended a lecture she gave last year and she was amazingly knowledgable. She specializes in celiac.

We live a few hours from Edmonton but love the city. We go there regularly to do major food shopping at the Italian Centre, T&T, etc. and go to great restaurants where I feel safe.

Do you have any favourite restaurants in Edmonton?

Oh, the Italian Centre! I used to live a few blocks away from it and did a bulk of my shopping there. You are truly bringing back memories for me.

Man, I love that place! I could almost live in the store except the wonderful smells of all that great bread would drive me crazy. Every single time my husband and I go (several times a year) we are like children because we are that delighted and excited. Each time there is something new to see. I think we literally look at each item practically.

My favourite eateries in Edmonton include the Red Ox Inn, Wildflower, Madison's Grill, Corso32 (have you heard of this place?) and Blue Pear. They are the top restaurants and are therefore expensive BUT it is so worth it because they are great with celiac people. Most menu items are naturally gluten free and they are so careful with cross contamination. Wildflower even has fresh gluten-free bread for bread service! And separate butters. Darn it - hungry again! :P

Haha! The bread, the cheeses and the meats! The bins of fresh olives and the beautiful, fresh produce! All the Italian mamas and papas roaming the aisles on Saturdays. Oh, you lucky woman you! Next time you go think of me stuck in stodgy Winnipeg dreaming of the Italian Centre. Breathe and inhale deeply for me. :)

I WILL think of you now whenever we go to the IC. We are going in March and are staying at the Union Bank Inn. Do you know it? It is gorgeous - we are using a groupon for it as there is no way I would pay $300 for a hotel room just for one night. I will be inhaling so hard that you will probably feel the breezes in Winnipeg!

Yes, the Red Ox Inn is still around and doing very well. They are consistently still rated in the top 3 restaurants in the city.

I had a great doctor when I lived in Edmonton. I don't believe she's taking new patients though. It also depends what part of the city you are in. Finding a good doctor in Alberta is tough.

      For 16 years I have relied on the website glutenfreedrugs.com to determine if a pharmaceutical is gluten-free. The website has been down for at least a week. Does anyone have any information about this outage, the status of the website founder and maintainer pharmacist Steven A. Plogsted or a phone number?       Sounds like you are in the UK. With blood numbers that high, I thought docs in UK would give an official diagnosis without the biopsy. You should ask about that, so you can get support faster.  I'd try to find and print out anything that supports that in your country, get another appointment and take all of it with you. Even in the US now, some docs are doing this, my 19 year old step granddaughter got an official diagnosis here in US with just blood results a few months ago.

      Is soy sauce in Korea also made from wheat like it usually is in US? I'd be concerned that even if asking about gluten, they would not be aware of or think of some like that.
