Monday Blues

I'm actually working my "real" job today subbing at the college. I got up an extra 30 minutes early and packed myself some lunch. I've got myself a fat slice of mincemeat pie and a dish of macaroni salad with a hard boiled egg. I remembered an extra bottle of water in case I'm super thirsty and even made it out the door smoothie in hand.

So, what's my problem? My problem is the bag of chips I'm eating. Why? Because I didn't bring a fork. There are none in the student or employee lounge, they sell none in the bookstore, there is no cafeteria and while Wal-Mart is 5 minutes away, the road is currently closed under construction making it more like a 20 minute rush hour drive.

Just to make my day even better, it's registration day. This means the front desk by the bookstore is littered with dozens and dozens and dozens of Krispy Kremes. <_< The only three things I can buy at the bookstore that I know are safe are baked Lays, Sweedish fish and Reeses Pieces.

I'm sooooooooo hungry! Still only half as hungry as I am mad at myself for actually leaving the house without a fork. I actually remember having the conversation with myself this morning debating the merits of plastic vs. metal. This is one of those moments I have the urge to apply my head to the nearest hard object with great force. Repeatedly. At least the headache would take my mind of the way my stomach seems to be trying to eat my spine.

Not that I want anyone else to be having a bad Monday but I sure would feel a little better about being mildly stupid today if I wasn't the only one.

Will this help?

I called the doctor's office this afternoon to find out if the insurance company will cover an upcoming MRI that my doc wants. The answer was "Yes", followed by "You know, that MRI was this morning, right?" Well, I do now.

I even had it on my calendar . . . which doesn't help if you don't actually check the calendar.

Btw . . . I would totally eat my lunch with my fingers.

Oops!

Okay, not actually funny that you missed your MRI but it sounds just like something I would do. Hopefully you won't have to wait too long until the next opening.

I was tempted to eat lunch with my fingers, but macaroni salad? Not so much. The pie maybe, but it's my crust is pretty crumbly and I'd make a mess.

You could make chopsticks out of a couple of pens.

Aww, it's always gotta be the utensils. :(

Yes, I am having a very Monday blues-y type day. It's been overcast for the past 3 days here, thunder storming intermittently...

Well, I brought my dog home on Saturday after her knee surgery – you see, she is supposed to REST and HEAL. Not happening – the thunder is really spooking her, she doesn't know where she wants to be, and she does not want to sleep alone in her kennel downstairs (she can't do steps). Unfortunately she kept most of my family up last night and me the night before. Not to mention how worried I am that she is going to hurt herself in her desperation, or already has.

And then the doorbell rang. Off she went fast walking across the slippery wood floor all the while barking. Yes, the was the one time I forgot to put the baby gate up. She almost jumped on the couch on her way back.

I have a make-up exam to do tomorrow and I haven't studied at all... my computer died about a week ago so I ended up getting a new one (and my parents helped pay for it). Afterwards, my dad said, "there, now go get that A." I know him saying that shouldn't have frustrated/upset me as much as it did, but it totally makes the guilt kick in.

Mondays...

Edit: Darn210: I hate to admit that I laughed a little, but I'm so sorry you missed your MRI!

Awww poor pup. I've always kinda felt bad when animals get scared or hurt or in pain because unlike children we can't really comfort them. We can't help them understand what is happening or why. They're simply suffering and all we can do is be present for it.

I think that in months with 5 Mondays we should make the 5th one an official holiday. No work, no school, no nothing. That or just rotating Monday holidays. Or we could go to 4 day weeks starting Tuesdays.

Sorry Bart, but I can't quite talk myself into putting a pen in my mouth. Gross! (I didn't own a pen that survived more than a few minutes in high school without teeth marks.) I did just pretty much inhale my pie though. Such a good example in the front of the class eating like an animal. B)

I think that is a fantastic idea! :D

It could be a good Celiac Disease teaching moment...

Oh yes, about the utensil problem. I have solved it, but it sure did take me awhile, and more than once forgetting. Thankfully I do work in a hospital so plastic forks are available, but they're the cheesy chintzy flimsy kind that bend if you look at them.

So I bought myself a lunch bag that has a separate zippered pouch on top. The bag is rectangular shaped which I wanted so I could put my plastic container in there and not have it turned sideways. Then in the small zippered pocket I keep a metal fork, spoon, and knife. I also keep tea, salt, sugar, and gum there. After I eat my lunch I go directly to the bathroom and wash off the fork/spoon and put it right back.

Of course, that doesn't solve the problem on days that I forget my actual lunch!
