Grocery Shopping Could Cause A Reaction

I want to alert others to a possible problem.

Within the last 8 months I have had to tell my husband he is going 100% gluten free. He must use gluten free breads, pastas, etc and can no longer bring anything into the home that is not gluten free. If he so much as toasts, microwaves or reheats on the stove a non gluten-free item I end up -- rashing out, itching all over, and with symptoms of Asthma. Since my BelAir grocery store remodeled, they decided to place their bread aisle in the same aisle - directly across from -a wall of refrigeration units. I started out not being able to go down that aisle and then I could not go down the adjoining aisles and now I have to stop shopping there all together. I have in the past talked to the manager with no results. So I E-mailed corporate.I am awaiting their response.

A month ago I went to my mother in laws flower class and ended up itching and not being able to breathe and found out that they had a kitchen 20 feet away that was preparing for a banquet. This new -affliction- now makes it hard for me to go to other family members homes. I have had to " hibernate" and stay away from family during fall thru winter due to Severe Chronic Idiopathic Neutropenia, which is a condition where my body cannot keep healthy White Blood cell count, so I already had to forgo seeing family during these months. Now I must add the rest of the year. Needless to say I have had many tears

because of this. So please be careful! Anne

This makes life difficult. I know of people who wear masks when they go out. Maybe that would help you too?

I do not mean to be 'preach-y' but this is an excellent lesson for all of us that celiac disease is an auto-immune disease.

I am sorry that things are so difficult for you farmer jennings, I cannot imagine how tough it is for you. It is terrible to have to be isolated. Do you know anyone in your area with celiac disease --that you might be able to spend time with -just so you do not feel so isolated. You have my sympathy.

THank you both for your love. Yes it is hard and I thank god for my loving husband. I have thought about seeking out a support group but I have to be extremely careful with my white count. Since I got rid of all bread I heve felt like a weight has been lifted off by system and I am thinking thjat I might have an allergy to yeast. It seem like one step forward two back on a continual basis. I know God is there walking the walk with me which gives me the gumption to go on and keep kicking butt!!

So, I contacted Scott Adams, the author of that article and also the creator/admin of this website, and pointed out to him the need to clarify the information in the paragraph in question. He has now updated the paragraph and it is clear that the DGP-IGA does serve the purpose of circumventing the false negatives that IGA deficiencies can generate in the tTG-IGA antibody test.

Has anyone experimenced enlarged lymph nodes with celiac? Both in the neck and groin area. Imaging of both areas have said that lymph nodes are reactive in nature. However, they have been present for months and just wondering how long this may take to go down. Been gluten-free for about two months. Blood counts are normal.

Hmm interesting I just assumed that any “IGA” tests including the DPG iga would be negative in a person who is IGA deficient but maybe that is not the case for the DPG test.

If you were just diagnosed I can say that if you go 100% gluten-free should should see dramatic improvement of your symptoms over the next few months, but the hard part is to stay gluten-free. This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):
