I have zero experience editing photos, and I wanted to upload a picture for my profile. I was wondering if maybe one of you forum savvy people might be able to point me in the path of least resistance.

I'm not trying to get professional headshots just a picture that is small enough to upload :D

If I recall right the file needs to be less then 50k in size. The trick is to make cut the size of the image to like 100x150 or there abouts, and turn up the compression until the file size is less then 50k. Any decent, even free, picture editing software should be able to do that for you.

Most versions of Windows include an accessory app called "Paint" that can do this. Follow the start menu to All Programs, then Accessories.
