I also use purell all the time (probably more than anyone is supposed to, but I don't like taking chances).

Just so you know, Purell has no effect on gluten. It is a disinfectant. To remove gluten, you need soap and water and scrubbing.

Thank you so much for this information! I alway use soap and water before I eat and purell only to make sure Im still clean.....I guess I was just wasting a lot of time and purell on that....

Do you know if wipes, like Wet Ones, would be a better option if I can't get to a sink?

Hi rml,

I read your orig july5 post above which is now erased? I thought it was a good description of your situation, and well-written.

I know the "can't be too careful" mindset, and that there's plenty of times i'd go 'overboard' by someone else's definition, but THEY don't know what it's like, do they?

I say be as careful or overly careful as makes you comfortable, despite whatever else goes on in the house. As time goes by you might re-evaluate boundaries but family members that aren't affected (perhaps a "yet" belongs here) shouldn't be making the gluten-free rules for you. (Now I'm not certain how well I remember your post)

Everyone on the forum is rooting for you & will offer tips as much as possible.

Now, regarding the wipes if no sink around - I don't know. Would that be for if you for sure touched some bread, or more like "better safe than sorry"?

Im not sure what happened to my original post.... I asked about the wipes and then it was gone with just "......"

Anyway, I really appreciate what you said about being too careful. I often don't listen to others and just do what makes me feel comfortable even if I know that I sometimes go too far. I dont like taking chance and even if others think my precautions are crazy I try not to listen and do them anyway. My parents are starting to think that Im being obsessive over how causious I am, thats why I had mentioned being unsure of my careful ways...

As for the wipes it would be for "better safe than sorry" perposes....I dont touch gluten at all (and in the rare occassion that I do, I scrub up to my elbows atleast 3 times with a lot of soap and water)

Thanks! :)

Lactic acid bacteria start to develop as soon as flour and water are mixed, so I assumed that in a yeast dough with long proofing time there could be some effect of fermentation and gluten break down.

I am COMPLETELY new to this celiac disease however I have had the same feelings and then some with my feet for years now and been diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy myself but they blamed and attempted to treat due from my type 1 diabetes and none of the treatment has helped at all so far so possible from celiac disease? Just sharing MY thoughts on this I've had zero confirmation

I've not heard of the DNA test I will definitely look into that. And I did not know that the neuropathy was symptoms of vitamin deficiency. I have been trying to get on a good vitamin regimen. Thank you!

My GI Doctor took blood work and said my Iron levels were actually high. But they took my blood a couple weeks after my infusion so I'm thinking that's why they were showing so high, but they knew I had the infusions. The infusions did help greatly but I am also on an Iron pill that I can instantly notice if I have not taken it for a few days.  Yes, I have read up on that! Thank you so much! I sure that will be fun! Hahaha

@shadycharacter, did you mean to reply to another post about sourdough bread? The present thread isn't about that.
