I was diagnosed with celiac and several food allergies in April, and am still learning about ingredients, menus, etc. Do you trust special dietary menus? What about the cross-contamination issues? I came very close to ordering salmon at Carmelita's, but could not figure out how they could prepare it safely with so many corn products in the kitchen!

Thanks!

With several allergy's in addition to celiac disease, you probably have to stick to specialty restaurants to be safe. The turnover and training issues at larger establishments will always make cross contact a real possibility.

I have celiac and a severe corn allergy along with a casein allergy and soy. I haven't eaten out in 2 years. It's like playing Russian roulette. It would be very hard if not impossible to find a menu item without corn in some form. Even the bagged lettuces are washed with a citric acid (corn wash) If it's not corn, there is usually soy in it.

Thanks to you both for the information. That pretty much confirms what I was thinking. I also eat mostly at home, and usually have a Muscle Milk as a snack when I am out. I am trying to use a cooler more so I can bring strawberries, etc.

Have you seen King Corn? Wow! I had no idea!

These allergies and celiac have certainly been challenging, but I have also never been on such a healthy diet before!

I guess if there is a bright side to celiac it is that we have the best diets out of everyone we know!

I'm going to watch King Corn this weekend, thanks for that. I saw it show up on my Amazon Prime list recently.
