Now Know What Glutened Feels Like

Hey all:

I have been (as best able) to be gluten free for about 4 weeks. WAS feeling better and stronger.

I added a new Revlon Lipstick, Progresso Cream of Mushroom Soup and a Chicken Salad tray at our local grill (which may have come out of a large pre-prepared jug).

Does anyone know of any "kooties" in the Lipstick, or Progresso Soup.

I made a crabmeat casserole with the soup, everything else was natural and used Hellmans Mayo.

I feel so weak, exausted, my eyelids feel like they have weights on them and I stare at the dishes in the sink, like they are going to jump into the dishwasher. I also have some dia.... and feel sharp (pin-like) pains in my small intestines, most likely from inflamation.

Is this was what "getting glutened" is like???? I recieved a B-12 injection today and will have more once a week for a month. Hope that that will bring my energy level back.

Thank goodness that I am able to stay at home and not have a full-time job. I just don't know how some of you do it.

Would welcome any inpute.

PS - Hurricane Ophelia was good to us. Not so good to those south of us.

Hi Lisa!

I am glad you "weathered the storm", so to speak....... and Ophelia was kind to you...... I hope the people south of you will recover quickly.

Yep, sounds like a gluten attack to me...... Just have to let it run its course......

Hugs.

Karen

I know for sure the soup was okay, I was so happy to find that out, so is thier split pea with ham and a few others, they mark the labels very well and I have never noticed any crosscontamination issues with Progresso soups. I would suspect the lipstick or the Chicken salad tray. Call the company about the lipstick or do a search under products. I would not touch a deli prepared anything, too much risk of cross-contamination and who knows what could have been in the jugged mix. It sounds like you got 'got' good, time will heal, hope you feel better soon. We all, I think, learn the hard way to call about everything till companies get smart and start labeling clearly.

You said that you made crab casserole, did you use real crab meat or did you use fake crab? The fake crab and lobster usually contains wheat (at least all the ones I've looked at....)

Totally pure, handed picked crab from the beach ....(maybe the hand-picked?)

But most likely the chicked salad from the grill.

Saw on a gluten-free site that all Almay and Revlon lipsticks are gluten-free.

This is the pitts, I feel like I have "mono", like I had in college.

Thanks for the input....

Lisa -

I had a lot of problems with grilled food, too. I only eat off my own grill now, and that was only after I completely cleaned the grates.

Must be glutened, I can't even find the right keys to type a post.

Please excuse all the errors in typing my previous posts. Hands and brain are not on the same road.

Hey, someone tell celiac3270 that I finally found the search on the site, so I can not post redundent questions...( I'm so proud of myself that I can't stand it!!)...I'd put on one of those smiley faces.........but still working on that...as said before, "old dog, new tricks".. If you'll bare with me, I'll hang in there with YA'LL...

Thanks Karen, you always seem to be there for me, (as well as others)

Hope this will pass soon.

Lisa,

I hope you are feeling better real soon, I know for me it not only affects me physically when I get glutened, but also emotionally. I become what I can only describe as a cross between an emotional wreck  and an explosive monster!!!

The grill had to be contaminated. That's where I would put my money...... <_<

Also, as for always being there for you, hey, what are fellow celiacs for??? ;) Just think, sometime down the road you are going to be a pro at this and you will be the one supporting and encouraging the newbies!!! (You will be an absolute computer pro by then!!! ;) )

Hugs.

Sorry you're not feeling well. I got glutened the other day from the McDonald's Grilled Chicken Caesar. It didn't dawn on me that picking out the croutons would contaminate me. One of these days I'll get this gluten-free diet down.

Be careful about drinks too. I unknowingly glutened myself with Tropicana Lemonade (2-litre) and IBC Black Cherry soda.

I'm amazed at how easily I gluten myself. You don't think about it being in drinks or cosmetics or that's not bread based. (At least I didn't.)

I'd be suspicious of the chiken itself as well. I once got glutened from chicken soup. I was so careful about the stock I used and the spices but still got terribly sick. I've heard that some companies inject their meat with a solution of "stuff" to plump it up and add weight. I think this is what did it to me. I know perdue is gluten-free but I don't think this was perdue. Anyway, that might be the case with your chicken salad.

I'm sorry you're not feeling well. I hope you get better soon.

Stephanie

Sounds like you are in the UK. With blood numbers that high, I thought docs in UK would give an official diagnosis without the biopsy. You should ask about that, so you can get support faster.  I'd try to find and print out anything that supports that in your country, get another appointment and take all of it with you. Even in the US now, some docs are doing this, my 19 year old step granddaughter got an official diagnosis here in US with just blood results a few months ago.

Is soy sauce in Korea also made from wheat like it usually is in US? I'd be concerned that even if asking about gluten, they would not be aware of or think of some like that.

That's a good idea. It can at least establish the potential for developing celiac disease and can help people decided between a celiac diagnosis and NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity). And it doesn't require a gluten challenge and can be had without a doctor's prescription.

I have my endoscopy on Thursday, has anyone had the procedure done with a cough? I don't have a continuous cough, but every now and then throughout the day I have sort of coughing episodes. They are a lot better than they were but I called endoscopy and they said to speak to my gp and my gp got back to me and said I need to ask endoscopy if its ok if I have it done still.  Help!

Thank you so much, everyone. For the moment my doctor just has me taking iron but hopefully we can reconnect soon. I'm going to look into genetic testing, too. Great advice all around and I appreciate it--and you can bet I'm going off the PPIs!
