My daughter's school has specialised walk to school days each term to get all the kids in together for a fun morning. Their "reward" tomorrow will be a breakfast of a sausage sizzle. So I just had to tell my daughter she has to miss out, I don't have time now to organise an alternative for her.

Who has a freaking sausage sizzle for breakfast at school?

Cook up some bacon real fast?? A bacon sizzle? Heck, I'm not exactly sure what a sausage sizzle is. If it's just sausage, could it possibly be gluten free? Or are they going to add a wheat crust, eggs, etc.?

Okay, this is going to be one of life's challenges....

Sausages on bread. Not at all suitable for a kid who is vegan and coeliac. If it's all about healthy living, why the heck does it need to be something that unhealthy at the end? Last term it was fruit.

That's crazy , I agree!!

We have the same thing but when they get to school they have fruit/fruit cups and milk or juice.

There are times when a fun snack or dessert is acceptable but not on a healthy walk to school day. Geesh . what are they thinking !!!!! Wrong message folks !!

Sounds to me like the organizers of this year's breakfast don't eat much fruit themselves. In my opinion - when something like this is planned by parents it often changes "flavor" from year to year. Are they serving fruit in addition to the sausage/toast?

Perhaps you could speak or email one of the organizers to let them know that:

1) They have excluded your child and any other with a restrictive diet from taking part in an activity that they were previously safe to participate in.

2) Fruit, Juice, Milk are far more healthful choices for this type of event.

If they make no changes, find out whom is organizing for next year and let them know your concerns - so your child can safely participate once again.

I'd bet there are many parents with similar concerns to yours that will not voice their opinion - if no one speaks up, the organizers will not understand the error they've made.

No, last term they had fruit, this term they had sausage sizzle. We are only halfway through the school year here, and it's the same people organising it. Well, she missed out and she was very annoyed at them because 3 staff members offered her a sausage on bread and she hit the third one away because she shoved it right into her face, so my DD got in trouble. I put it back onto them and said WHY would the staff do that? I would have reacted with the second time, she has more patience than I have.

I'm sorry that is awful - staff? Goodness gracious - can you bring your concerns the Principal? That's not just rude, it is potentially dangerous for your daughter.

    • Kidney disease question
Hi all,   I don't know whether kidney disease is celiac related or not but hopefully someone here can advise.
I recently had a general blood test as I'd been feeling unwell. I think I've been glutened tbh but I also felt lethargic and out of sorts. I asked for thyroid and other levels to be checked. Frustratingly they didnt run the TTG - something I'm really down about. Anyway, The doctor looked at my test results and told me (via the receptionist) there was nothing to worry about. Given past experiences I requested a paper copy of the results and I found the following under the renal profile section:

      Renal profile 142 (135-145)
      Serum Sodium 4.7 (3.5 5.3)
      Serum potassium 5.5 (2.5 - 7.5)
      Serum urea 93 (62 - 120)
      Serum creatinine 93 (62 - 120)
GFR 77ml/min/1.73m^2 - STAGE 2: CKD only if other evidence of renal damage

The doctor is presumably happy with this but I'm a little concerned. Should I ask for a doctors appointment and perhaps a urine test? Is the GFR result on its own not sufficient reason to investigate further?
Many thanks for any advice you can offer

      Matt

So I just got diagnosed with celiacs and I felt like after all the testing and stuff I would finally get the information my fiancé and I so badly needed about what is wrong with me, but the doctor came in the room at our appt and spent about 15 minutes with us talking a little bit about cross contamination, then said I need to avoid gluten like i would arsenic then sent us on our way! So I guess I am looking for some good tips and information about what is really wrong with me! I know own it's an auto immune disease. I just feel scares because I am so uneducated about it and it's such a big change. I just want to know what to do and do it right so I feel better!

That has the same name as one of my favourite beers from one of my favourite cities: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kölsch_(beer) IF it tastes the same I'd be sorely tempted!

Hello cycling lady, have you noticed my picture is showing up as you?  Have no idea why but it's rather disconcerting to see my picture and your words 😉  Do you know how to fix it?  You seem to have far more experience with this board than I do

Hi There, I don't know if there is a place for videos in the forum. I just watched "The Truth About Gluten" I think it is a good video. I would like to share it somewhere but don't know where it should go. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Here is the link if you have never watched it.
