- Symptoms from 2001, maybe before. Across 20+ years, these have included, vomiting, D, migraines, headaches, recurrent miscarriage, inflammation problems (failure to heal from injuries) brain fog, anxiety and more!
- Elimination diet using Atkins, 2003 – excluded wheat, caffeine, quorn. 2005, excluded sesame, alcohol
- Started diagnosis route April 2012, blood tests, endoscopy – said negative, gluten challenge, clearly something very wrong, had to stop after 3 weeks.
- Gluten Free, August 2012, Corn Free, September 2012. Removed most processed gluten free foods.
- Genetic testing, December 2012 – negative – Diagnosis – Non Celiac Gluten Intolerance (NCGI)
- Elimination diet, January 2013 – all of the above plus dairy, legumes, all grains, sugar, additives, white potatoes, soy. Reintroducing sloooowly now. Health improving.

My biggest complaint was depression before I went gluten-free. It took about a year to completely resolve, but I am free and clear and don't need medications, like I used to. I will say, though, that I get a bout of depression whenever I get sick. If I get a really bad cold or the flu, I feel horribly depressed for the duration. Also, if I don't eat healthy foods or get enough light or exercise, it causes problems.

If your iron and vitamin D are low, that could definitely cause you to feel depressed. My mother used to take supplements for the exact same configuration of deficiencies. If you don't mind my asking, are you overweight? Your body utilizes vitamin D differently if you are overweight, often resulting in a deficiency.

Feeling like crud today. I can not decide if its just pms or i am just having one of "those" days. I am still having problems sleeping. I went to sleep at 8 pm then woke at 11pm. I tried to go to sleep at 2am, but emotions got the better of me. Now who knows if i will sleep and who knows what this is really about. Maybe i am just exhausted and overwhealmed. Next week i have more dr appts and more tests. I am beginning to hate it. I know they are run some tests and the tests are going to come back negative. What really got me down tonight concerns my parent's flighty support in my life. I get blamed for the most insignificant things or dumped on with everyone's problems. Then when i need support and their faith in me, i get ripped to shreds. I am sorry for venting, but with it being 3am there is no one with which to comiserate.

We know it is all real stuff, and many of us have been there. Not sleeping makes everything harder. Is it your sleep study this week?

Sorry your family is not supportive.

Maybe get out and get some fresh air today? I always find it helps.

Hopefully, the sleep study will be this week. I think i am going batty. What probably compounds the problem is that we only have one car. My husband uses it for work and is working alot. So he gets done with a job, calls me to see if i need anything from the store, picks up a few groceries, and like tonight got home at 8:15. This is pretty normal so i am stuck in the house except for dr appts. I hear you about getting out for some sunshine.

I do have an appt with my dr concerning my fibromyalgia. I hope to bring up some different things with her and talk about different treatments other than meds.

That's tough. I spent 5 months of pregnancy housebound except medical appts and I definitely went a bit bats.

It does sound like you have pushed hard to get to the right people to help. Make sure you let us know how it all goes.

I identify with you about the depression. I am maybe two months gluten free and when I accidently ingest it, the last symptom and longest symptom is depression. It doesn't seem to exit my system for days. If I stay away from it I don't get it...I will have normal 'bad days.' Also, if I limit my caffeine intake to just tea I do better as well. I believe I have been suffering from a gluten intolerance since I was a kid, and it can definetely explain the physical comfort issues I had. Lots of bloating...I think the kind of bloat I get is not a normal kind, it sticks, it feels yucky. I was a very depressed teenager. I'm starting to believe that feeling physically horrible brings you down, like a mind - body connection. Gluten in our bodies either does damage or causess uncomfortable symptoms, so it makes sense that depression goes along with it.

I'm another celiac who has had severe depression in the past. It has taken a lot of trial and error to figure out my triggers, although gluten is a major one.

I've found that I'm very sensitive and I feel so much better off all grains, including rice. I'm still working on staying rice free, though, because that means yet another major diet change and I've found that I adapt better when I incorporate changes slowly (except gluten free, which was "cold turkey").

Once you're able to find your major triggers, life will be so much easier. Please keep trying.

Rickets (severe Vitamin D deficiency) shortly after birth
First trip to Dr with severe C, age 7
Infertility, multiple miscarriages, eventually adopted 2 boys (not related)
2010: Negative celiac blood test, but staying on gluten free diet due to vast improvement in all symptoms
2011: June - started low salicylate diet to improve rosacea - it worked really well!
2012: May - started Paleo way of eating. Emotions and blood sugar seem to have evened out. Brain fog vanished.

2013: May - after 4 month elimination diet, was able to add back dairy, but nightshades are gone for good (my arthritis is gone, too!!!)

Dissappointing Day: i went to my fibro dr today and told her about the last 6 weeks. She looked right at me and said, "Well, I am sorry that things have been going so badly, but there is nothing else I can do for you. Just continue looking for the medical causes."!!!!!?????? No advice, no general direction, just continue with what you are doing. Thanks! I started crying in the office as i was so frustrated ( i rarely cry in front of others).

The "good" news is that i have arthritis in my right foot too!

joolsjewels - i saw you were online earlier today, and although you didn't bump up this post, i wondered how you are doing.

have you had another test run to see if you are still producing antibodies? there's an RN who has celiac, who has become a specialist in the topic, speaks internationally, consults, etc. i think she really knows her stuff. she has people go gluten & dairy free, because of what the person earlier said - the casein (milk protein) and gluten strands can look alike to the body. here's her website: http://glutenfreern.com/ take a look at the link mid-way down the front page under "frequent misdiagnoses" and then at her link under fibromyalgia. reading through your post, i wonder if you are still getting exposed to gluten. she does do phone consultations - i think she knows more about this topic than any doctor i've encountered. after i talked to her, i had my primary care doc order the blood tests for me. he didn't think i had it. he didn't think my daughter had it (his words were that all her stomach problems were in her head.) we appreciate that very much. :angry: however after the daughter being gluten-free for 4 weeks, she's a world better, both mentally and physically.

you can't take this with other antidepressants, but 5HTP is something I take that helps your brain produce melatonin to sleep and serotonin for a good mood. but DON'T take it while you're taking another anti-depressant. you don't want serotonin overload. i'd encourage you to do some research into it. sounds to me like you might be still having antibodies causing all these other symptoms, like the fibromyalgia. If a person's intestine isn't absorbing tryptophans, they don't sleep well and might feel anxious or depressed. those are all linked together. i took paxil for a few months (bully boss was making me insane) and my son (college student) took celexa for anxiety attacks and depression. both of us went off of them and found the 5HTP helped more than anything else - and the only side effect is that it can make you sleepy. i take just one a night - i buy mine from pureformulas.com and get the one made by Thorne Research Labs (cuz they are the researchers).

but again, please do some research and if you want to take it, do it safely. i just didn't want to ignore your post because so much there sounds like you're still having antibodies, your gut is may be not absorbing nutrients and you may be malnourished.

Childhood: canker sores, zillions of cavities, and multiple dental enamel defects (not decay). Acne began at age 9, became cystic acne at 15ish, was bad til early 20's, occasional break-outs now only if i eat certain foods.
1968 - allergic to bacon (arm rashes) & orange juice; sensitive to soy
1970s - lots of digestive problems, allergy to citrus, citric acid, cinnamon, lactose intolerant, rosacea from foods
1980s - allergic to oregano, basil, thyme, pork, strawberries, paprika, smokehouse-type seasonings, peppers
1990s - discovered digestive enzymes (YAY!) and my stomach issues resolved by 90%
2012 - diagnosed with celiac via blood tests (tTG) and genes (HLA DQA1*0201: DQB1*0202)
After learning about celiac, it is obvious my mom had it (ulcerative colitis), my brother has it, and my 3 young adult children have it (2 have digestive problems + anxiety; one has DH). we all went gluten-free november 2012.
