Zowie. Hurt my back cleaning out the coop. Fortunately most things are doable, but finishing up the potty process is ....... challenging.

And so not something you'd care to ask for help with!

Thought about that. Good way to test a relationship, though.

Went out to check on the chickens and found the three chicks outside the nest, cold and dead. Brought them inside wrapped up in my shirt against my stomach, because, you know, they're chickens. Reptilian-esque. Put the heated barley bag underneath them and started searching the chicken forum. Others have revived chicks that have been dead for a couple days, so I figured I'd give it a shot. One person suggested putting them back under the broody. OK, works for me.
Put the three little bodies under mom (I'm not very hopeful, actually, but it's worth a shot). Figured I'd take out the two eggs that didn't hatch, because 3 days overdue is a long time. Brought the eggs inside to candle them to see if they were even ever fertile and one PEEPED at me!.
So now the broody is sitting on three dead chicks, and two "dud" eggs.
And I dunno about you, but when there are lives at stake, I'm pretty oblivious of my body -- so now my back really hurts.
Think I'll re-microwave the barley bag and stretch out in the recliner.
