Elemental Diet And Leaky Gut?

Hi

I've been posting a lot of topics lately because it seems like everyone here knows so much it's awesome! Anyway I'm considering taking an elemental diet for sibo and I'm not sure if many people would know about it, but can it be bad for leaky gut? I can become intolerant to anything I consume too much so am I able to become intolerant to these too or does this not happen since they are made for gastrointestinal problems and are predigested?

Thanks a lot!

I'd love to know more about this, too. I can't seem to eat much, and the docs here won't put me on an elemental diet because I'm in a US military medical system and they don't support it (the GI used the words "tip of the spear" twice to refer to the medical care available...apparently the elemental diets are far away from the tip).

I tried two of the ones I heard about on this site. The first caused some malabsorbtion symptoms and the second...had trace amounts of casein. Which I'm pretty sure I'm intolerant to.

Do you want the casein one? I'm happy to ship it to you, free of charge -- I hate the thing going to waste. It's sealed, unopened, and supposedly works great. (I can send along the other one but it's already opened.)

PM me if you're interested. I can give you all the details of both and you can see what you think.

I did not improve at all on elemental diet -- I went from that to bone broth and slowly added cooked vegies blended with bone broth until I was able to tolerate more.

Little off topic: if you have leaky gut - are you aware that the vegetable oils, eggs and ultramarathons are probably contributing to that?

Hi,

I know it's been years since you posted this, but I'm going through what you were and I'm curious if you were able to resolve your food intolerances. I am currently on the elemental for SIBO and then hoping to finally heal my leaky gut. I would love to hear from you!

Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.

"her stool study showed she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that." The wording of this part of the sentence does not make any sense at all. I don't mean to insult you, but is English your first language? This part of the sentence sounds like it was generated by translation software.

What kind of stool test was done? Can you be more specific?
    • mishyj
Perhaps I should also have said that in addition to showing a very high response to gluten, her stool study showed that she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that.
