In Desperate Need Of Fiber!

20 September 2006 - 01:38 PM

I know that the usual symptoms of a gluten intolerance may be a serious case of the big D but for me it has mostly been serious constipation, gas, and bloating with the occasional attack of the big D. Since going gluten free (aside from my Sunday stupid encounter with McDonalds french fries) I still feel constipated. My bloating and gas has nearly disappeared but I am having a hard time getting the right amount of fiber in my diet. I eat a ton of veggies (more than 5 servings a day) and I have 2 fruits a day (can't have more due to high triclyerides). But clearly its not enough. It has become painful to go to the bathroom. I was thinking about trying those new Metamucil pills with added calcium. What have others tried? Does anyone know if those are gluten-free?

Are You Dying For Milk But Can't Have Lactose Or Soy?

20 September 2006 - 01:30 PM

So now that I am both intollerant to soy and lactose I thought I would never be able to have "milk" in my tea or cereal again. Until I found almond milk. It was great, especially if you enjoy the taste of soy milk. The brand I bought is Pacific Natural Foods, Vanilla Almond Milk. Its low fat and cholesterol free too and we all know how great almonds are for you. So if you can eat nuts but can't have soy or lactose definitely try some of this. If you have a Trader Joes nearby that's where I found mine in the same isle as soy milk and rice milk (which i thought would be safe until it said very clearly on the label: contains gluten!!!)

Cat Food

20 September 2006 - 08:42 AM

i absolutely love my 2 kitties. i think i have done a pretty thorough job of ridding my apartment of any traces of gluten. the one place i completely missed was my cats. they are very loveable and cuddly. they eat IAMS cat food and treats which i dont think are gluten-free. does anyone know which cat foods are safe?

I Have A Cold. What Is Safe To Take To Feel Better?

19 September 2006 - 07:21 AM

So I have a really bad head cold. I usually don't like to take too much unnecessary medicine but I am feeling pretty yucky. Does anyone know what over the counter cold/sinus meds are gluten free? My very first homemade gluten-free chicken soup and gallons of hot tea aren't working. I barely slept last night and could use some nyquil for tonight. What about throat losengers? I know Halls are out.
